PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Clubber Lang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Konrad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clubber Lang looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Clubber Lang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jacob Konrad!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Illya Tyunina and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lang tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Konrad swivels and escapes.

Konrad shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Lang is trying to stand up here but Konrad is controlling him well.
Lang wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Konrad throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Konrad takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Lang is looking to escape.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Lang counters with a left and a right that stings Konrad.

Konrad shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Lang wants to hold on but Konrad pushes him away.
Lang can't escape the position.

Konrad looking to finish Lang with some ground and pound. This is bad for Lang!
Konrad lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Konrad can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lang is looking to escape.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Konrad closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Lang wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lang is not content to let Konrad control the position.
The ground and pound from Konrad seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Konrad shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lang napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Konrad is looking to take a break and control but Lang is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lang is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Konrad has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Lang parries the strikes from Konrad easily there. Konrad is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Lang to escape.

Konrad wants to clinch up but Lang keeps it at a distance.
Jacob Konrad seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lang gets caught flat footed, as Konrad shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Konrad scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Lang moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Konrad postures up in Lang's guard and throws a big left but Lang blocks it.
Konrad missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Konrad working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Lang's head.

Lang working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Konrad doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Konrad manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jacob Konrad showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Konrad feints and as Lang raises his hands in defense, Konrad changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Konrad throws a big right hand that misses.
Konrad is looking to stand up but Lang won't let him.

Lang pushes Konrad off and gets back to his feet.
Konrad tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lang sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Konrad somewhat.

Konrad closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lang wants to get back to his feet.

Konrad throwing shots but Lang is blocking nicely.
Konrad looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lang with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Konrad thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lang's head.
Konrad throws a strike but Lang avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Lang is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Clubber Lang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Konrad holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Konrad regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Lang.
Lang postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Konrad drives through with a takedown into guard.

Lang has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Konrad can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Jacob Konrad is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Konrad prevents Lang from getting back to his feet.

Lang looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Konrad's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Konrad trying to control the position from guard on top but Lang is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Clubber Lang.
I think Konrad has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
