PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Godfathers A Chode (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kendall Clarke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kendall Clarke will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Godfathers A Chode!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kendall Clarke!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Lou da Vinci and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clarke jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Chode scores with a takedown into Clarke's guard.
Clarke is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Chode throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Chode content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Chode in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Chode might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Clarke managing to control the position.
Clarke is trying to control the position but Chode postures up.
Clarke looking for a sweep. Not yet Clarke, not yet.
Chode trying to control the position from guard on top but Clarke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chode with a flurry of punches that miss.
Chode loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Clarke throws a right and a left that Chode avoids nicely.

Clarke darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Clarke thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Chode's head.
Clarke trying to control the action but Chode is working from the bottom.
Chode is pressing down on Clarke's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Clarke throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Chode works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Chode keeping moving, preventing Clarke from controlling successfully.
Clarke postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Chode working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Clarke.
Chode has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Chode is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Clarke is looking to work some ground and pound but Chode has wrist control.

Chode lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Clarke!

Chode goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Clarke turns into him and now he's in Chode's guard.
Chode is breathing heavily.
Clarke throwing strikes but missing.
Clarke controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Clarke trying to control the position from guard on top but Chode is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Clarke must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Clarke postures up in Chode's guard and throws a big left but Chode blocks it.

Chode had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Clarke defends it easily.
Clarke wants to pass the guard but Chode is keeping the position.
Clarke trying to control but Chode is working from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Clarke shoots in and drives through. Chode sprawls well.
Clarke moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Clarke drops Chode with a right and a left! Clarke comes rushing in but Chode regains his composure and manages to keep Clarke in guard.


Chode is rocked!


It looks like Godfathers A Chode has been cut.
Clarke passes Chode's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Oh Chode is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Clarke throwing shots but Chode is blocking nicely.
Chode seems to have got his legs back now.
Chode moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Clarke postures up in Chode's guard and throws a big left but Chode blocks it.
Clarke wants to control from the top but Chode keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Clarke works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Clarke is looking to take a break and control but Chode is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Chode is looking to improve his position.
Chode moves into full guard.
Clarke keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Chode's head.
Clarke passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Chode is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chode gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Clarke trying to control the action but Chode is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clarke throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Chode takes a swing at Clarke's ribcage but misses.
Godfathers A Chode is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Clarke looks to land a combination but Chode avoids it well.
Chode tries to clinch up.
Clarke just misses with a punch to the body.
Clarke throws an overhand right that lands on Chode's shoulder, as Chode tries to avoid the shot.
Chode tries to score a power double leg takedown but Clarke sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chode somewhat.
Chode swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Clarke fails with a takedown attempt.
Kendall Clarke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Clarke lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Clarke.
Clarke shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Chode counters with a left to the body.
Clarke keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Chode fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Chode misses with a few strikes there.

Clarke with a poor takedown

and Chode counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Godfathers A Chode has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kendall Clarke.
Chode passes Clarke's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Chode throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Clarke is positioning himself well to prevent Chode advancing to mount.
Chode is thwarting Clarke's attempts to control the position.
Clarke is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Chode's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Chode's back!

Chode tries to escape but Clarke has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Chode has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Clarke.

Clarke has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Clarke controlling the position well here. Chode rolled but Clarke kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Chode tries to roll but Clarke sticks to his back.
Chode avoids the strikes from Clarke.
Clarke misses with a punch to the head.
Will Clarke go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Chode is in bad spot here.

Clarke is persistently looking for the submission but Chode is defending it well.
A lull in the action here.

Clarke keeps control of the position as Chode tries to break free.
Clarke biding his time, looking for the opening.
Clarke gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Clarke thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Chode manages to reverse the position and now he's in Clarke's guard. Nice work there by Chode.
Clarke avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Chode trying to control the position from guard on top but Clarke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Chode drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Clarke dives on top into guard.
Chode keeping moving, preventing Clarke from controlling successfully.
Clarke is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Chode working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Clarke doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Clarke manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Clarke controlling from the top position.
Chode wants to hit a switch here but Clarke passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Chode there!
Clarke throws some wild stikes that Chode manages to avoid easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Kendall Clarke will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Godfathers A Chode's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Clarke closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Chode to the mat! Chode manages to get full guard.
Clarke pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Chode is keeping the position for now.
Clarke throws a big right hand that misses.
Clarke stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chode swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Chode is looking for a triangle but Clarke pushes his legs off easily.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Clarke postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Clarke missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Clarke is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Clarke trying to control but Chode is working from the bottom.

Chode shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Clarke makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Clarke.
Chode working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Chode postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Clarke wants to get back to his feet but Chode is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Clarke with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Chode can't handle though.
Clarke seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Chode drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Chode seems to have locked his on tight now - Clarke screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Chode, as he picks up the win!
