And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shirou Masuda and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ripken Jr throws a leg kick but Sparta moved away.
Ripken Jr circles away from the clinch attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sparta looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Sparta needs to keep his hands up - Ripken Jr had a free shot at his head there.
Sparta blocks the body kick.
Ripken Jr displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sparta.
Sparta lands the left hand.
It looks like Cal Ripken Jr has been cut.
Sparta doesn't manage to clinch there - Ripken Jr circles away.
A left and a right from Ripken Jr both land. Nice combination.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sparta scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Ripken Jr wants to get back to his feet.
Sparta fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Ripken Jr knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sparta on the ground.
Ripken Jr is pushing Sparta's head away, looking to escape. Sparta manages to hold on to the position though.
Sparta working the ground and pound but Ripken Jr is defending the strikes.
Ripken Jr takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Cal Ripken Jr's cut is getting worse.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Sparta scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Ripken Jr is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Sparta can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
