Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kyle Laidlaw! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Romeo Silva! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Paulo Santos and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Laidlaw tries to close the distance and clinch but Silva swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Laidlaw tries to clinch up but Silva circles away and keeps his distance. Laidlaw is looking to clinch but Silva is avoiding it.
Laidlaw wants to clinch. Silva keeps the fight on the outside. Laidlaw closes the distance and clinches. Silva tries to circle away but Laidlaw has him pinned against the ropes. Laidlaw's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Laidlaw misses with a kick to the body.
Silva darts in trying to clinch and Laidlaw counters by clinching up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Laidlaw breaks from the clinch.
Laidlaw closes this distance looking for a takedown but Silva circles away. Laidlaw shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva tries to control the position but Laidlaw now has his back.
Silva staying busy and making it hard for Laidlaw to control. Silva defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Even with his hooks in, Laidlaw manages to miss with strikes from the back. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Silva is keeping busy.
Laidlaw has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Laidlaw working for a choke but Silva is defending well. Silva is trapped and Laidlaw is scoring with shots to the head and body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva looking very determined here, making life difficult for Laidlaw.
Laidlaw is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Silva up.
Laidlaw is looking to finish with some ground and pound! Silva staying busy and making it hard for Laidlaw to control. Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Laidlaw. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Silva looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Silva can't escape the position.
Silva looks gassed! Silva trying to control the position but Laidlaw manages to sink in the hooks. Laidlaw sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Silva taps out!
