Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Charles Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hans Wurst! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Aafke Stam and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones shoots in for a takedown but Wurst shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Jones looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Jones gets a takedown into half guard. Wurst makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Jones shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wurst pinned against the cage. Wurst gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Wurst tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center. Wurst closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wurst lands in his opponent's guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wurst accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wurst trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom. Wurst landing some decent shots from guard. Wurst not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Wurst throwing strikes but missing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Wurst gets to his feet - Jones follows without any prompting. Wurst tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center. Wurst shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wurst showed some decent athleticism there. Wurst is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wurst thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wurst in particular looking to stall. Wurst is nestled in close to Jones, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Wurst tries to pass to full mount but Jones defends it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jones is trying to stand up here but Wurst is controlling him well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Wurst with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Wurst moves into full mount! Jones won't be happy about that! Wurst throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hans Wurst dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Wurst lands a front kick. No luck with that takedown attempt from Wurst. Horrible takedown by Wurst or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad. Wurst fails with the takedown and Jones counters with a shoot takedown. Wurst fights it but they end up in guard. Charles Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hans Wurst. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Wurst is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jones is controlling him. Wurst is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jones preventing the sweep. Wurst looking for a triangle here. Jones is fighting it but it looks tight! Wurst pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Jones is tapping out - this one is all over!
