Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Poncho Villa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gabriel Tablita! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Villa misses with a low kick.
Tablita scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Left hook, right uppercut from Tablita. Villa shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tablita as he jumps to the side. Tablita closes the distance and lands a one-two. Tablita fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Villa on the side of the head. Villa tries for a takedown but Tablita sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Villa takes one to the chin there. Tablita lands a nice hook to Villa's body. Villa takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Tablita lunges at Villa with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Villa's hand. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Tablita lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Villa misses with a low kick. Villa takes a jab right on the kisser.
Villa tries to work over Tablita's front leg with a kick but Tablita checks it. Tablita paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Tablita jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Villa bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Villa looks up at the clock and then as Tablita takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Villa smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

That's one minute gone in the round. Villa in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Villa throwing shots but missing, from side control. Villa tries to score with some ground and pound. Tablita controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Villa works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Villa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Tablita tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Villa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Tablita wants to control but Villa postures up.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Tablita clobbers Villa with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. A decent looking cross lands there for Tablita. Gabriel Tablita is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Tablita checks a leg kick. No luck with that takedown attempt from Villa. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Poncho Villa. That's going to take a lot out of him. Tablita lands a nice looking body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Villa takes a shot right to the bread basket. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Villa. Tablita with a nice cross. Villa could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Tablita lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Tablita uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Villa has time to react. Tablita moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Tablita cracks a nice hook into Villa's ribs. Nice body punch from Tablita. A lazy left from Tablita finds it's target. Tablita is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Tablita throws a good cross that connects.
Tablita bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Tablita cracks Villa with a good jab. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Tablita blocks a low kick nicely. Tablita throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Danga de danga de dang - Tablita scores with a four punch combination! Villa misses with a low kick. Tablita connects with a nice looking jab.
Tablita slaps away a takedown attempt from Villa, before circling back to the center of the mat. Villa fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tablita scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Good work by Tablita as he checks the leg kick. A cross from Tablita lands. Villa takes one on the button. Tablita lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Tablita checks the leg kick. Tablita lands with a kick to the temple. Villa shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Tablita is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Villa had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Villa misses with a low kick. A left and a right from Tablita both land. Nice combination. Tablita connects with a right hand. Villa shakes it off. A head kick misses from Tablita. Villa moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. An inside leg kick from Villa misses. Villa looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Decent striking displayed by Tablita there. Villa needs to keep his hands up - Tablita had a free shot at his head there. Tablita stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Tablita cracks Villa with a right hand to the side of the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Villa shoots in and drives through. Tablita sprawls well. Tablita throws out a powerful jab. Villa bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Villa sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Tablita is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Tablita really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Villa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Villa prevents Tablita from escaping the position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Villa creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Tablita sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Villa cracks Tablita with an elbow. That is naaassty. Tablita takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Villa takes a body punch but keeps moving. Villa walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Tablita scores with a jab. Villa closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Tablita to the mat! Tablita manages to get full guard. Villa is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Villa trying to control the position from guard on top but Tablita is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Tablita controls Villa momentarily but Villa frees himself. Tablita utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Villa throws a big right hand that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Villa lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Tablita avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Villa working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Tablita scores with a decent looking hook. Tablita scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Villa doesn't seem bothered though. Villa on the wrong end of a nice jab. Nice uppercut there from Tablita. Villa has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Villa tries to move into range but Tablita moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Tablita bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Villa's head backwards. Tablita is working the combinations to good effect here. Tablita misses with a jab, cross combination.

Tablita is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Villa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Tablita is looking to escape. Villa throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Tablita because Villa loaded up on that one. Villa avoids the attempt from Tablita to control. BOOM! Villa connects with a massive shot to the dome!
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Villa sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Tablita is looking to improve his position but Villa isn't that keen on the idea. Villa thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Villa throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Nice straight punches there by Tablita. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Tablita. Villa shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Poncho Villa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Villa shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tablita as he avoids it easily. Villa avoids the head kick by Tablita.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Villa throws a low kick but Tablita avoids it. Tablita works the jab nicely. Tablita has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Tablita lands a jab-cross combination. Tablita connects with a single shot there. Tablita connects with a jab. Villa shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tablita napping and manages to drive through into side control! Villa working the body and head with strikes.
