PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Richard Bennett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akio Takada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takada has chosen Metallica - All Nightmare Long as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Richard Bennett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Akio Takada!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takada throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Bennett throws a hook but Takada avoids it easily.

Bennett closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Bennett breaks the clinch.
Bennett misses with a wild body shot.
Takada tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Bennett avoids the head kick by Takada.
Takada loads up on a big right hand but Bennett slips the punch.
Bennett pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Takada connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Bennett's hands.
A big right from Takada misses.
Takada moves out of range of the strikes.
Bennett buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Takada misses the jab.
Bennett bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Takada takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Takada shoots in for a double leg but Bennett sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Takada has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Takada there as he acknowledges the shot.

Bennett moves in looking to clinch but Takada pushes him off.
Bennett sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Richard Bennett will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Takada shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bennett but Bennett pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Bennett lunges at Takada with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Takada's hand.
Takada looks to throw the jab but Bennett is out of range.
Takada tries for a takedown but Bennett sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Richard Bennett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Akio Takada.

Bennett cracks Takada with a good jab.
Takada shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Bennett fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Takada.

Takada shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bennett keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Takada seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bennett does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bennett is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

and Takada counters with a body kick that stops Bennett in his tracks momentarily.

Akio Takada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Takada wants to take a breather but Bennett is having none of it.
Takada throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Takada thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bennett's head.
Takada slips a nice elbow through Bennett's hands, connecting with Bennett's forehead.
Bennett regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Takada.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Takada changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bennett looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Akio Takada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Takada has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
