Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Shogun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Emerson Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Shogun! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Emerson Santos! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shogun pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Santos shoots in looking for a takedown. Shogun tries to sprawl out of it but Santos keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Shogun manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Santos closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Santos lands in his opponent's guard. Santos tries to free his leg and advance position but Shogun is retaining full guard. Santos trying to control but Shogun is working from the bottom. Santos might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Shogun kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Santos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Santos has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Shogun is proving hard to escape from.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Shogun, right into the meat.
Santos closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shogun circles away. Santos rushes Shogun and presses him up against the ropes. Shogun looking for a takedown. Santos manages to pull guard.

Shogun throws a nice outside leg kick. Shogun throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Santos avoids the head kick by Shogun.
Nice takedown defense from Shogun. No joy for Santos on that attempt. Mauricio Shogun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Emerson Santos. Santos blocks a head kick by Shogun.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Shogun throws a sloppy head kick and Santos moves out of range easily. Santos changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shogun tries to avoid it but Santos manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shogun to the ground. Shogun escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Shogun connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Santos drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Santos postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shogun is on top in guard.
Santos looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Shogun trying to control but Santos is working from the bottom. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Mauricio Shogun will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Santos has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Santos there as he acknowledges the shot. Santos fails in his attempt to clinch. Shogun swats away the attempt to clinch by Santos. Shogun stuffs the takedown. Shogun keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Santos looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Shogun could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Shogun misses with a head kick.
Santos misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Mauricio Shogun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Emerson Santos. Santos is breathing heavily. Shogun stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Shogun wants it to stay on the feet. Mauricio Shogun is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

It looks like Emerson Santos has been cut. Emerson Santos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Santos tries to clinch but Shogun is having none of it. Shogun buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Shogun throws a sloppy head kick and Santos moves out of range easily. Shogun cracks the inside of Santos's front leg. Shogun feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Santos's calf. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Shogun throws a one two combo.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shogun lands with a slapping head kick. Santos gets caught flat footed, as Shogun shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Santos had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Shogun defends it easily. Shogun passes easily into side control. Nice work. Shogun wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Santos, who protects the arm well. Shogun tries to advance to mount but Santos denies him. Shogun is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Santos knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Santos is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Santos has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shogun is working away from the top position though. Santos actively working from the bottom here. Still in half guard, Shogun seems content to control. Shogun seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Santos does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Santos trying to hold on to Shogun's head to control him but Shogun postures up.
Shogun is looking for a kimura but Santos is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shogun to get the leverage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Santos tries to clinch and Shogun counters with a nice leg kick. Shogun slaps away a takedown attempt from Santos, before circling back to the center of the mat. Santos looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Santos tries to close the distance and clinch but Shogun swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Santos on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. A head kick misses from Shogun. Santos closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shogun circles away. Shogun lands with a thumping leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mauricio Shogun dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Emerson Santos's cut. That's time! Shogun's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Santos is pinned up against the ropes taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Shogun scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Shogun dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Santos. That did some damage! Santos shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Shogun counters with a slapping leg kick. Santos clinches but Shogun breaks the clinch and Shogun counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Shogun scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Shogun tries to move to mount but Santos blocks the move with his legs. Shogun is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Santos is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Santos is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but Shogun has just dragged him back down to the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santos can't do much from the bottom here. Shogun has knee on belly and moves into mount. Santos really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Santos has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Shogun. Shogun shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Santos but Santos pushes him off and we're back to square one. Emerson Santos has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Mauricio Shogun is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Santos's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Santos thows a leg kick but Shogun checks it and Shogun counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Shogun.
And that's the end of the fight! Mauricio Shogun showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shogun, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
