Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Detlef Piper! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Beoung Keun Choi! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Piper shoots in for a takedown but Choi shows good takedown defense. Choi scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Choi is looking to stall here but Piper recovers full guard. Choi postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Piper controls Choi momentarily but Choi frees himself. Choi is looking to work some ground and pound but Piper has wrist control. Choi wants to control from the top but Piper keeps moving. Choi trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Piper is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Choi is looking to work some ground and pound but Piper has wrist control. Choi trying to control but Piper is working from the bottom. Piper wants to get back to his feet but Choi is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Piper shoots and misses and Choi counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Choi. Piper is trying to keep Choi in close.
Piper preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Choi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Piper. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Choi looking to control the position here, rather than advance. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Piper is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Piper is working hard here to advance position. Choi chips away with some ground and pound. Choi is in close to Piper's body, working some short punches and elbows. Piper is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Piper wants to stand and escape but Choi is having none of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Choi content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Choi keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Piper's head. Choi working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Piper keeping moving, preventing Choi from controlling successfully. Choi postures up and lands a big shot to Piper's brow. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Choi wants to pass the guard but Piper is keeping the position. Choi scoring with some ground and pound.
Piper is rocked! Choi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Choi sitting in guard here, content to control. Oh Piper is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Choi stands and throws Piper's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Choi scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Piper is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Choi can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
