The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sake fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sake tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Mcdonald motions for Sake to come forward. Mcdonald throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Mcdonald keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Sake has Mcdonald pressed against the cage, preventing Mcdonald from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Mcdonald throws a sloppy head kick

and Sake counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mcdonald won't be happy with that.

Mcdonald uses his free foot to push down on Sake's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sake.

Mcdonald is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sake is surviving well by controlling Mcdonald's body position as best he can.
Mcdonald wants to control the pace but Sake is squirming around nicely.
Sake really wants to buck Mcdonald off and get back to his feet.

Mcdonald is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Sake to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Sake shrugs it off.

Mcdonald really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sake. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sake is desperately trying to improve his position but Mcdonald has a good base and remains in mount.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
You get the feeling that Sake really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Sake is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sake stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mcdonald.
Mcdonald digs a good body shot into Sake's ribs.

Sake has Mcdonald pressed against the cage, preventing Mcdonald from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Mcdonald blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Sake gets control of Mcdonald's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sake will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Sake is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mcdonald is controlling him.
Mcdonald works over Sake with some ground and pound from guard.

Sake controls Mcdonald momentarily but Mcdonald frees himself.
Mcdonald wants to pass the guard but Sake is keeping the position.
