Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Larry Laffer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Murdock Jr! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jr stuffs the takedown. Jr punishes Laffer's body with a nice straight punch. Laffer shoots in but Jr avoids the takedown attempt easily. Jr checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Jr displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Laffer. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Larry Laffer. That's going to take a lot out of him. Laffer tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jr sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Laffer somewhat. Laffer shoots in for a takedown but Jr shows good takedown defense. No luck with that takedown attempt from Laffer. Jr scores with the left hand. Laffer knows he should have avoided that one. Laffer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Jr lands with a cross. Laffer shoots in for a takedown but Jr shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Jr swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Laffer. Jr scores with a kick to the midsection. Laffer is breathing heavily. Jr throws a sloppy head kick and Laffer moves out of range easily. Jr scores with a jab to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jr lands a jab to the nose. Jr lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Jr scores with a punch to the head. Jr lands with a shot to the body. The crowd cheers as Jr lands an impressive looking overhand right. Laffer doesn't seem phased though. This has been an exciting period of action! Jr works Laffer's body with a nice hook. A solid leg kick lands there for Jr.

Jr shoots in and bounces Laffer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Jr throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Jr postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Jr has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Jr chips away with some ground and pound. Jr is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Laffer working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jr.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jr tries to free his leg and advance position but Laffer is retaining full guard. Laffer wants to stand but Jr is controlling the position. Jr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Laffer works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Laffer wants to get back to his feet but Jr is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Jr postures up.
Jr tries to free his leg and advance position but Laffer is retaining full guard. Laffer wants to get back to his feet but Jr passes into half guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Jr throws out a loose jab but Laffer uses good head movement to avoid it. Jr cracks Laffer with a right hand to the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jr decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Laffer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Laffer is positioning himself well to prevent Jr advancing to mount. Jr is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Laffer is looking to escape. Laffer tries to roll over but Jr keeps him under control. Jr works his foot free and advances to mount. Laffer wants to try and get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Laffer tries to reverse the position but Jr maintains control. Jr postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Laffer looks a forlorn figure.
Laffer tries to lock up and control but Jr gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Laffer is looking to get to half guard. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Laffer is working hard here to advance position. Jr lands a big shot there that rocks Laffer but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Murdock Jr dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Laffer with a lazy takedown attempt and Jr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Laffer's guard. Jr has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Laffer is pulling down on Jr's head. It's preventing any offense from Jr, at least for the moment. Jr tries to free his leg and advance position but Laffer is retaining full guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Laffer is on top in guard.
Jr has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Laffer has passed into side control.
Laffer tries for a kimura but Jr is defending well. Laffer goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Jr rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Laffer's guard! Nice work there by Jr! Jr wants to pass the guard but Laffer is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Laffer uses the cage to get back to his feet.
No joy there for Laffer, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Laffer misses with a takedown attempt and Jr counters with a thumping low kick. Jr swats away the attempt to clinch by Laffer. Jr misses the shot to the body. Jr looks for the body kick but Laffer saw that one coming. Laffer misses with a takedown attempt and Jr counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Larry Laffer. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Jr scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Laffer wants to get back to his feet.
Murdock Jr has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Laffer won't allow Jr to pass to mount. Laffer wants to get back to full guard. Jr missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Laffer trying to hold on to Jr's head to control him but Jr postures up.
Laffer taking some punishment here, with Jr in his half guard. Jr looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Laffer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Jr is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Jr missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Laffer is trying to maintain the position but Jr is very close to passing his half guard. Jr scoring with strikes to the body and head. Jr thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Laffer's head. Laffer moves into full guard.
Laffer is trying to keep Jr in close.
Laffer is pulling down on Jr's head to control his posture. Jr chips away with some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Jr postures up.
Jr working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Laffer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jr's guard. Jr throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Laffer postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jr is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Laffer, into his guard. Laffer trying to keep a closed guard but Jr is proving a slippery customer.
Jr won't allow Laffer to get back to his feet. Jr with a nice head shot there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Murdock Jr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Jr looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Laffer! Jr punishing his opponent with strikes. Jr prevents Laffer from getting the reversal. Laffer bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Jr tries to land a sweep but no joy. Laffer passes into half guard. Laffer trying to control the action but Jr is working from the bottom. Jr looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Laffer is working for a kimura but Jr is defending it quite comfortably.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jr wants to improve his position but Laffer is controlling well.
Jr tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Laffer has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Laffer moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Jr has worked his arm free - good work by Jr!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Laffer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Jr tries to get back to half guard but can't. Jr regains half guard, as Laffer was trying to land strikes. Laffer trying to control from Jr's half guard. Jr has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Laffer won't allow Jr to sweep him here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jr is on top in guard.
Laffer has Jr pulled in close to control his posture. Larry Laffer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Laffer pushes Jr off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Laffer has his takedown stuffed and Jr counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Murdock Jr seems to be getting the better of the standup. Nice shot by Jr. Jr looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Laffer! Laffer is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Laffer working to try and regain half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Laffer wants to control but Jr is having none of it. Jr landing strikes from the mount and Laffer is in trouble! Jr punishing his opponent with strikes. Laffer is trying to stand. Jr scoring with strikes but Laffer is staying in there. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Jr won't let Laffer get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Laffer swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Laffer throwing hammer fists to the chest of Jr. What's that going to do exactly?
And that's the end of the fight! Murdock Jr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Jr has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
