PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George Pierre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Anthony Henderson!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henderson is looking to clinch.
Henderson moves in looking to clinch but Pierre pushes him off.
Henderson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pierre shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Henderson but Henderson pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Pierre gets the takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Henderson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Pierre is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Henderson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Henderson tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Pierre presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Pierre tries to control but Henderson wriggling away.

Henderson is wriggling around trying to escape.
Pierre controlling the position easily from mount.
Henderson can't escape the position.
Henderson slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Henderson regains full guard. Nicely done.

Pierre drops back, looking for a kneebar! Henderson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Henderson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Henderson!

Henderson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Pierre, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Henderson misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Henderson advances to mount.

Henderson working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Henderson can't control as he wanted to and Pierre manages to get the fight back to his half guard.

Pierre has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Henderson is working away from the top position though.
Henderson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Henderson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pierre sees it coming and defends easily.
Henderson thows a huge punch but Pierre dodges it nicely.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Henderson tries to clinch there but Pierre circles away.

Henderson throwing hammer fists to the chest of Pierre. What's that going to do exactly?

Pierre thowing shots but they're missing.
Henderson throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Henderson is trying to escape the mount but Pierre keeps good control and instead manages to take Henderson's back.
Henderson manages to reverse the position and now he's in Pierre's guard. Nice work there by Henderson.
Pierre avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Pierre is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Henderson is aware though and is defending well.

Henderson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Henderson scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that George Pierre will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Pierre blocks a head kick by Henderson.
Henderson moves in looking to clinch but Pierre pushes him off.
Henderson throws a head kick that Pierre semi-blocks.
Pierre avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Henderson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pierre defends it nicely.
Pierre connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pierre has his takedown stuffed
and Henderson counters with a good low kick that Pierre was not able to check.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Henderson tries to close the distance and clinch but Pierre swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

George Pierre is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pierre circles away from the clinch attempt.
Henderson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Henderson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Pierre decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Henderson's guard.
Henderson throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Henderson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Henderson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Pierre postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Pierre stopping the sweep attempt from Henderson.

Henderson working for submissions but it's allowed Pierre to get to half guard.
Henderson is pressing down on Pierre's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Henderson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Pierre escapes and throws Henderson's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Pierre tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pierre has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Henderson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Pierre's best efforts.
Henderson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Pierre thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Henderson's head.
Henderson gets back to full guard.
Henderson keeping moving, preventing Pierre from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Henderson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pierre defends it easily.

Pierre got a little sloppy there for a moment and Henderson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pierre has managed to get both his arms back between Henderson's legs - danger averted.

Henderson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Pierre is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Henderson tries to strike from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Henderson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Henderson has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Pierre should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Henderson has tightened it up now! Pierre should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
