Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Lauzon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Derek Cote! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cote misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lauzon.
A slow jab from Cote misses its intended target. Cote connects with a jab. Cote tries to land a leg kick but Lauzon saw it coming and moves away.
Lauzon shoots in for a takedown but Cote shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Cote uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Lauzon.
Cote swinging wildly here.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lauzon. Lauzon moves out of range as Cote throws a body kick.
A combination from Cote does no damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lauzon tries to clinch but Cote is having none of it. Lauzon takes a shot right to the bread basket. Lauzon throws a right hand that Cote ducks under and follows up with a left that Cote also avoids with ease. Cote is looking to land body kicks. Lauzon misses with an attempted mid kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cote will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Lauzon moves out of range as Cote strikes. Cote tries to land a body kick and Lauzon makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Cote really felt that one! Lauzon has taken the fight to the clinch.
Cote is trying to break free. Cote looking to stall.
Cote tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Lauzon has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Cote uses from the top position. Cote looking to pass the guard. Lauzon pulls Cote in close to his closed guard and prevents Cote from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lauzon is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Lauzon manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Cote is squirming around, avoiding Lauzon's attempts to control the action. Cote wants to hold on but Lauzon pushes him away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cote throwing hammer fists to the chest of Lauzon. What's that going to do exactly? Cote is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Lauzon has taken his back.
Lauzon doesn't have the hooks in and Cote manages to turn into his guard.

Lauzon keeping moving, preventing Cote from controlling successfully. Lauzon wants to get back to his feet but Cote is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Cote won't allow Lauzon to sweep him here. Cote sitting in guard, not really doing much.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Lauzon lands with a right hand. Lauzon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cote circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Lauzon. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cote takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Cote will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Cote throws a head kick that misses. Cote tries to keep at a distance but Lauzon has taken the fight into the clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sam Lauzon dominated that round. That's time! Lauzon's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lauzon is defended easily by Cote. Cote blocks a head kick by Lauzon.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Lauzon. Lauzon has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Lauzon forces Cote back against the cage and clinches. Cote escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cote swings away with a leg kick that misses. Sam Lauzon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Lauzon fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Cote swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Lauzon counters with a left and a right that stings Cote. Cote throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Lauzon counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Lauzon. Lauzon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cote walks away with a smile on his face. Lauzon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Lauzon avoids the body shot from Cote.
Lauzon throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cote. Cote throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
so Lauzon counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cote tries to strike from the bottom.

Cote can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lauzon is looking to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cote might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lauzon kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Cote looking to control and managing it successfully. Lauzon is desperately trying to improve his position but Cote has a good base and remains in mount. Lauzon is working hard here to advance position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cote can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lauzon is looking to escape. Cote takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Cote manages to capitalize on a mistake by Lauzon to take his back! Lauzon is holding onto Cote's left hand, preventing any choke attempts. Cote struggling to keep hold of the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Cote looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
Lauzon wants to control his opponent's hands but Cote gets his hands free. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lauzon tries to escape but Cote has the hooks in and won't let him break free. A lull in the action here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cote is not going to allow Lauzon to sit and survive in this position. Lauzon prevents Cote from getting a body triangle. Cote throwing damaging strikes from the back! Lauzon could be in trouble here!
Cote scores with punches and elbows. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sam Lauzon dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Cote looks to throw the jab but Lauzon is out of range. Cote will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Cote misses with a shot to the body and Lauzon counters with a two punch combo. Cote lands a right hook to the body.
Lauzon looks for a takedown but Cote sprawls well. Lauzon scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Cote sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Lauzon wants to stand up but Cote is controlling the position.
Cote makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Cote.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cote is pressing down on Lauzon's thigh, looking to free his foot. Lauzon is holding on for now. Sam Lauzon is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Sam Lauzon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Lauzon wants to improve his position but Cote is controlling well.

Lauzon circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Cote missing with a left hand there. Lauzon was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Lauzon scoring well with a low kick there.

and Lauzon counters with an inside leg kick. Cote swats away the attempt to clinch by Lauzon. Cote scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Cote waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Lauzon. Lauzon fails with the takedown. Lauzon clinches up with Cote and pushes him back against the cage. Lauzon gets a trip takedown into half guard. Lauzon stalling away here and it's allowed Cote to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Sam Lauzon showed his dominance in that final round. Well Lauzon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
