PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Spicoli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arnaud Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spicoli comes to the cage accompanied by Wipe Out. Savage has chosen BLUNT- "The Iron Maiden" as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jeff Spicoli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Arnaud Savage!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice jab there from Spicoli.
A swing and a miss from Spicoli.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Savage.
Spicoli misses with a straight right.
A looping hook to the body misses from Spicoli. Savage does a little dance to reset his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Savage throws a front kick aimed at Spicoli's knee but Spicoli avoids it well.
Spicoli misses with an uppercut.
Savage blocks the body kick.

Spicoli thows a left - swing and a miss!
Spicoli rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Savage moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Savage shoots in for a takedown but Spicoli shows good takedown defense.
Spicoli lands a jab-cross combination.

Savage shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Spicoli manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Savage is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Savage passes into half guard.
Spicoli has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Savage is working away from the top position though.

Savage is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Spicoli!

Savage swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Spicoli is now in Savage's guard. A big mistake from Savage there, giving up the dominant position!
Savage is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Savage manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Spicoli on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Spicoli tries to get out of the position.
Spicoli gets back to half guard.
Savage wants to pass to mount but Spicoli is defending the position.
Spicoli has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Savage is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Spicoli is not content to let Savage control the position.
Savage works his foot free and advances to mount.

Savage moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Spicoli has worked his arm free - good work by Spicoli!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Spicoli tries to improve position but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jeff Spicoli will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Spicoli leaves Savage with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Savage shoots in for a double leg but Spicoli sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Spicoli misses with a body shot.
Spicoli connects with a looping right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Savage moves out of range of the leg kick from Spicoli.
Jeff Spicoli seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spicoli throws out a loose jab but Savage uses good head movement to avoid it.

The crowd cheers as Spicoli lands an impressive looking overhand right. Savage doesn't seem phased though.

Savage tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Spicoli scores with a jab.
Spicoli circles away from the clinch attempt.
Savage looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jeff Spicoli has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Arnaud Savage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
A good leg kick by Savage.
Savage tries to clinch there but Spicoli circles away.
Spicoli lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Savage backs up against the cage.
Savage shoots in for a takedown but Spicoli shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Spicoli scores with a crisp jab that stopped Savage in his tracks.

Savage feints and as Spicoli raises his hands in defense, Savage changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Savage postures up.
Savage wants to pass the guard but Spicoli is keeping the position.
Savage is looking to advance position but Spicoli has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Savage is trying desperately to improve position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Spicoli sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Savage bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Savage displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Spicoli throws out the jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Savage looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Spicoli throws and low kick but Savage moves out of range easily.

Savage looks for a takedown but Spicoli sprawls well.

Spicoli throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A slow jab from Spicoli misses its intended target.
Spicoli tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Savage counters with a nice double leg into side control. Spicoli won't be happy with that.

Savage is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Spicoli is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Savage swings around for an armbar but Spicoli sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Savage's guard.
Arnaud Savage has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Savage is on top in guard.
Spicoli looking to control.
Spicoli managing to control the position.
Spicoli's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Savage postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Spicoli is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Savage, into his guard.
Jeff Spicoli is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Savage looking for subs off his back but Spicoli has passed one foot through into half guard.

Spicoli gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Savage wants to clinch up but Spicoli keeps it at a distance.
Spicoli throws a one two combo.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Spicoli takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Spicoli throws a left and a right that both miss
and Savage counters with a nice leg kick.
Spicoli throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Savage fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Spicoli fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Savage is out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
Arnaud Savage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Spicoli has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
