Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fergus McDugan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Godwich! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Bruno Hogan and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McDugan dives in and grabs Godwich's left leg, looking for a takedown. Godwich pushes down on McDugan's head and hops out. Godwich scores with a kick to the midsection. Godwich throws a series of punches but McDugan moves out of range. McDugan sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Godwich darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. McDugan regains full guard. Nicely done. Godwich scores with a decent looking elbow strike. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McDugan wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Godwich working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. McDugan is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Godwich has McDugan pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Godwich pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending McDugan tumbling to the mat - Godwich dives into McDugan's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Godwich loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. McDugan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
McDugan scrambles and gets back to his feet.
McDugan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Godwich avoids it really well and circles away. McDugan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and McDugan counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Godwich thinking. Godwich looking to land some kicks to the body here.
McDugan tries to close the distance and clinch but Godwich swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Nice sprawl there from Godwich as McDugan shoots in. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fergus McDugan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McDugan is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Godwich tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. McDugan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Godwich counters with a nice double leg into half guard. McDugan wants to control but Godwich is keeping busy.
Godwich thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Godwich wants to lay and pray for a moment but McDugan keeps working. Godwich throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. McDugan is trying to stand up here but Godwich is controlling him well. McDugan keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Godwich slips a nice elbow through McDugan's hands, connecting with McDugan's forehead. McDugan is staying active underneath Godwich, who seems content to just control the action from this position. McDugan keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Godwich loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Godwich trying to control but McDugan is working from the bottom. Godwich in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. McDugan wants to get back to his feet but Godwich is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Godwich is looking to work some ground and pound but McDugan has wrist control. Godwich prevents McDugan from getting back to his feet. Godwich is looking to advance position but McDugan has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Godwich shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. McDugan slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Godwich is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and McDugan reverses the position - he's now on top in Godwich's guard. Godwich trying to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round. McDugan is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Godwich is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. McDugan sitting and controlling from the half guard. Godwich is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Fergus McDugan has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. McDugan checks a leg kick. Fergus McDugan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. McDugan keeps the fight on the outside. Godwich stalks McDugan and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into McDugan's face. McDugan staggers backwards, shaken. Godwich swats away the attempt to clinch by McDugan. McDugan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Godwich, pushing him back against the cage. McDugan prevents a takedown attempt there.

That's two minutes gone in the round. McDugan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. McDugan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Godwich counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. McDugan wants to clinch up but Godwich keeps it at a distance. McDugan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. McDugan dives in and grabs Godwich's left leg, looking for a takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fergus McDugan. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Godwich is working for takedown but McDugan is calmly controlling the position for now. McDugan is pressed up against the cage. Godwich has hold of a leg and is looking to drag McDugan down to the mat. McDugan avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Godwich takes a shot right to the bread basket. Godwich closes the distance and lands a one-two. Godwich misses with a low kick.

Godwich misses with a leg kick and McDugan counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McDugan passes the guard and advances to mount! Godwich wants to control but McDugan is having none of it. Godwich is desperately trying to improve his position but McDugan has a good base and remains in mount. McDugan controlling the position easily from mount. McDugan is working for a guillotine from mount but Godwich frees his head quite easily.
McDugan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Godwich is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. McDugan landing strikes, looking to finish! McDugan looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Godwich is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
McDugan looking to control but Godwich is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Godwich wants to hold on but McDugan pushes him away. McDugan tries to control but Godwich wriggling away. Godwich is in all sorts of trouble here.

Fergus McDugan dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Godwich rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McDugan moves out of range and avoids them all easily. McDugan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Godwich counters with a solid body kick. Godwich lands a straight punch to the body, keeping McDugan at a distance.
McDugan closes the distance and clinches up with Godwich, looking for a takedown. McDugan pushes Godwich against the cage but Godwich circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Godwich looks to land a combination but McDugan avoids it well. Godwich looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Nice sprawl there from Godwich as McDugan shoots in. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fergus McDugan. That's going to take a lot out of him. Godwich looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Godwich missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Godwich not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Godwich thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing McDugan to regain full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. McDugan trying to keep a closed guard but Godwich is proving a slippery customer.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. McDugan working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Godwich. Godwich throws and elbow that misses. McDugan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Godwich's guard. Nice move by McDugan! McDugan wants to control from the top but Godwich keeps moving. Godwich really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McDugan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Godwich is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. McDugan won't allow Godwich to sweep him here. McDugan stands up from guard. Let's bang!
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. A shot to the liver by McDugan. Beautiful body shot. McDugan closes this distance looking for a takedown but Godwich circles away. Godwich looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
McDugan stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Godwich. Godwich will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Godwich keeps McDugan at a distance using the push kick. Godwich dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on McDugan. That did some damage! Godwich stuffs the takedown. Godwich misses with a double jab
and McDugan counters with a big head kick but Godwich shrugs it off. Godwich shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. McDugan manages to regain half guard whilst avoiding the strikes. McDugan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if McDugan tries to get out of the position. McDugan is refusing to be controlled, as Godwich sits in half guard. McDugan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Godwich thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed McDugan's head. McDugan is not content to let Godwich control the position. Godwich trying to control from McDugan's half guard. McDugan has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Godwich must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. McDugan pushes Godwich off and gets back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. McDugan with a poor takedown and Godwich counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Godwich will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
McDugan's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and McDugan duly obliges. Godwich misses with the combination.

McDugan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Godwich but Godwich pushes him off and we're back to square one. Godwich fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. The fight stays on the outside here - Godwich looks like he's thinking about clinching though. A combination from Godwich does no damage.
And that's the end of the fight! James Godwich comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Godwich has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
