Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksander Emelianenko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Josh McRoberts! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Vladimir Khabensky and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McRoberts throws a series of punches but Emelianenko moves out of range. McRoberts throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Emelianenko uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McRoberts.
Nice defenses there by McRoberts. McRoberts drives through with a takedown into guard. Emelianenko is looking to stand up but McRoberts isn't so interested in that idea. McRoberts is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. McRoberts has gone for a leg lock! Emelianenko slips out almost immediately though and dives into McRoberts's guard. Emelianenko got a little sloppy there for a moment and McRoberts has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Emelianenko has managed to get both his arms back between McRoberts's legs - danger averted. McRoberts working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Emelianenko has passed into half guard!
That's one minute gone in the round. McRoberts regains full guard. Nicely done. McRoberts keeping moving, preventing Emelianenko from controlling successfully. McRoberts looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Emelianenko passes into side control.
McRoberts is trying to improve his position. McRoberts looks to move to half guard but instead Emelianenko has passed into mount! Damn! A nice elbow there by Emelianenko.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McRoberts is desperately trying to improve his position but Emelianenko has a good base and remains in mount. McRoberts takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Emelianenko landing shots from mount. McRoberts is looking to improve his position but Emelianenko isn't that keen on the idea. Emelianenko avoids the attempt from McRoberts to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Emelianenko lands a big shot there that rocks McRoberts but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
McRoberts is squirming around, avoiding Emelianenko's attempts to control the action. Emelianenko looking to secure an arm triangle but McRoberts defends it well. McRoberts is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
McRoberts manages to regain half guard. Good work. McRoberts wants to control but Emelianenko is keeping busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. McRoberts tries to get to full guard but Emelianenko has control of the leg. Emelianenko wants to pass the guard but McRoberts is defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Emelianenko connects with a nice short shot to McRoberts's temple. McRoberts regains full guard. Nicely done. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Emelianenko is sitting in close to McRoberts's body. McRoberts has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Emelianenko is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Emelianenko is tapping! That was a very nice submission by McRoberts.
