PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pebble Braithweight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barry Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Braithweight kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is 300 violin. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Pebble Braithweight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Barry Romero!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Daniel Bishop and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Braithweight uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Romero.

Romero closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Braithweight to the mat! Braithweight manages to get full guard.

Braithweight is looking for a triangle but Romero pushes his legs off easily.
Romero in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Braithweight has momentary wrist control but Romero slips an elbow through the middle.
Romero throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Romero is in close to Braithweight's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Romero postures up in Braithweight's guard and throws a big left but Braithweight blocks it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Romero shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Braithweight as he avoids it easily.

and Braithweight decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Romero's guard.
Braithweight tries to stand but Romero is controlling from the bottom.

Romero escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Braithweight gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Braithweight works his foot free and advances to mount.

Braithweight goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Romero turns into him and now he's in Braithweight's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Romero accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Romero tries to clinch up

and Braithweight moves into the clinch.
Braithweight lands a right hand that snaps the head of Romero backwards.
Braithweight drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Romero gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Romero wants a takedown but no success here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Braithweight working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Braithweight is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Romero knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Romero wants to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Braithweight wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Romero, who protects the arm well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Romero regains half guard there - taking advantage of Braithweight's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Braithweight gets caught flat footed, as Romero shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Romero is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

BOOM! Braithweight connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Romero is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Braithweight stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Romero bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Romero is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Braithweight is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Romero wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Braithweight, who protects the arm well.

Pebble Braithweight showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Braithweight has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
