PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nick Devlin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and This Dude (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Devlin's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, sandstorm. This Dude will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Devlin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, This Dude!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dude tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Devlin fails to land the takedown.
This Dude seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Devlin is looking to clinch.

Devlin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Devlin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Dude is controlling Devlin's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Devlin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dude doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Devlin.
Devlin wants to free his trapped foot but Dude is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Dude makes his way to full guard, as Devlin worked for a kimura.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Dude is looking for a triangle but Devlin pushes his legs off easily.

Devlin drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dude manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Devlin has Dude in his guard.
Devlin is breathing heavily.
Dude wants to pass the guard but Devlin is keeping the position.
Devlin being controlled here, momentarily.
Dude pushes down on Devlin's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Devlin looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Devlin is in trouble now - Dude has advanced to mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dude with shots to the head and body - Devlin looks very uncomfortable down there.
Devlin is trying to escape the mount but Dude keeps good control and instead manages to take Devlin's back.
Devlin is in bad spot here.

Devlin fending off the submission attempt from Dude.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Devlin wants to escape the position.
Dude really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Devlin.
Devlin staying busy and making it hard for Dude to control.
Devlin tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Devlin regains half guard.

Devlin gets full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Devlin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dude can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Dude sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Devlin is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Dude would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Dude makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Devlin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dude doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dude manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Devlin working for a triangle but Dude defends it easily.

Dude stands up and waves to Devlin to follow him.

Dude misses with a takedown attempt

and Devlin counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Dude is holding on to half guard well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Devlin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dude doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Devlin.
Devlin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Dude!
Devlin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Devlin seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Dude is holding on tight.

Devlin goes for an armbar but Dude turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Dude.

Devlin looking for a guillotine here but Dude defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Nick Devlin will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Devlin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Devlin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dude does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Devlin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Devlin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Dude!

Devlin is working for a guillotine from mount but Dude frees his head quite easily.
Devlin avoids the attempt from Dude to control.
Dude is breathing heavily.

Devlin with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Devlin working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Dude looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Devlin! Submission of the night perhaps?
