PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Charles Dyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Xayle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Xayle's choice of entrance music: Getting Away With Murder - Papa Roach (Edit). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Charles Dyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Xayle!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Saam Ante and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dyer thuds his right hand into Xayle's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Xayle takes one on the button.
Dyer tests Xayle's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Xayle moves out of range as Dyer strikes.
Dyer scores with a jab to the body.
Dyer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Xayle.
Dyer throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Xayle on the side of the head.
Xayle uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Dyer.
Dyer leaves Xayle with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Xayle closes the distance and clinches up with Dyer, looking for a takedown. Xayle pushes Dyer against the cage but Dyer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Charles Dyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Xayle.
Dyer misses with a hook. Xayle ducked under it nicely.
Dyer cracks Xayle with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Dyer, as that shot connected.
Xayle tries to move into range but Dyer moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Dyer clobbers Xayle with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Dyer scores with a hook.
Xayle changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dyer tries to avoid it but Xayle manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dyer to the ground. Dyer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Charles Dyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dyer ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Dyer is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Dyer scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Xayle doesn't seem bothered though.
No luck for Xayle with that takedown attempt.

Dyer lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Dyer missing with a left hand there. Xayle was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Xayle will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A decent looking cross lands there for Dyer.
Dyer lands a jab to Xayle's midsection.
Dyer is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.

Charles Dyer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dyer stuffs the takedown attempt from Xayle. Xayle gets slowly back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dyer darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Xayle shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Xayle ducks right into an uppercut from Dyer.

Xayle ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Xayle takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Xayle shoots for a double leg takedown but Dyer sprawls well. He's pushed Xayle's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Dyer throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Dyer lands with a shot to the body.
Dyer clobbers Xayle with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Xayle shoots in but Dyer avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Xayle is trying desperately to land a takedown but Dyer is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Xayle.
Dyer slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
A right-left combo lands from Dyer.
Dyer works the jab nicely.
Dyer bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Xayle's head backwards.

Dyer lands with an uppercut that bounces Xayle off the cage and back into rage.
Dyer moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Dyer connects with a crisp jab.
Xayle fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dyer avoids it really well and circles away.
Dyer is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Xayle moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dyer throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Dyer connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Xayle takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Dyer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Xayle stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Dyer lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Dyer moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Xayle fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dyer sprawls well initially but Xayle persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Dyer makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Dyer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Xayle trying to control but Dyer is working from the bottom.

Xayle is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Xayle is breathing heavily.
Dyer pulls Xayle in close to prevent any damage.

Dyer is pulling down on Xayle's head. It's preventing any offense from Xayle, at least for the moment.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Xayle wants to control from the top but Dyer keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Dyer's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Dyer duly obliges.
Xayle has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Xayle takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Dyer is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Xayle.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Xayle dives in and grabs Dyer's left leg, looking for a takedown. Dyer pushes down on Xayle's head and hops out.
Xayle blocks a jab.
Xayle takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Dyer connects with a good right hand that stumbles Xayle. Xayle circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Nice uppercut lands for Dyer. That snapped Xayle's head back.
Dyer closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Xayle gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Dyer.

Xayle closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dyer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Xayle on the ground.
You can see the frustration on Dyer's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Dyer throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Xayle fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Dyer stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dyer wants it to stay on the feet.
Xayle ducks right into an uppercut from Dyer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dyer lands a glancing blow to the side of Xayle's head.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dyer, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
