The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bergoff gets the takedown into side control. Bergoff controlling the position. Hagans gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Hagans could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Bergoff takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Bergoff's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Despite being in the dominant position, John Bergoff just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hagans with a lazy takedown attempt and Bergoff counters with a takedown into side control. Hagans is breathing heavily.

Bergoff feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. No, Hagans has escaped the position, nice work there. Bergoff thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. A much better position for Bergoff. Bergoff is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Bergoff content to control rather than advance. Hagans looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Bergoff is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Bergoff wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hagans keeps working. Bergoff with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Brandon Hagans has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
