The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cruz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Cruz postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! besenio is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Cruz, into his guard.
besenio will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

besenio has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

besenio drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and besenio jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Cruz controls besenio momentarily but besenio frees himself.

besenio is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Cruz is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
besenio is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Cruz will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Cruz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so besenio is just riding it out for now. Cruz eventually gives up the hold.

A close round but Diego Cruz will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
