Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ray Den! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fellacio Sanchez! The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Den shoots in for a takedown and gets it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sanchez can do anything to dispel that myth. Sanchez trying to hold on to Den's head to control him but Den postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Den is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Sanchez makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sanchez. Den has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Sanchez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sanchez is on top in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Den looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Den has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Sanchez off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Sanchez loads up on a big right hand but Den slips the punch. Sanchez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Den moves away. Den shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sanchez pulls Den in close to his closed guard and prevents Den from doing any damage or advancing position. Den sitting in guard here, content to control. Sanchez controlling Den's posture.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Sanchez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sanchez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ray Den dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Sanchez throws a leg kick which misses Den's front leg but catches the back leg as Den tries to avoid it. Sanchez swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Den. Den avoids the body shot from Sanchez.
A jab from Sanchez misses. Den throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sanchez's waist but Sanchez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Den off to one side. Sanchez throws a series of punches but Den moves out of range. Sanchez takes a swing at Den's ribcage but misses. Den looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Den fails to land the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ray Den. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sanchez throws a body punch but Den moves out of range. Sanchez swings for the body but Den moves out of range.
Sanchez misses with a wild body shot. Sanchez is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Den rather than just go for the knockout. Sanchez works Den's body with a nice hook.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez throws a nice looking combination but Den bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Sanchez jabbing away but nothing is landing. Sanchez lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Den sprawling to the canvas. Sanchez follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Den hang on?
Den is rocked!
It looks like Ray Den has been cut. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Den is trying to get back to full guard. Oh Den is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Sanchez wants to work for an arm triangle but Den is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Den seems to have got his legs back now. Den is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Sanchez is trying to control. Den wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Sanchez thows a huge punch but Den dodges it nicely.
Sanchez is looking for a kimura here.
Den won't allow Sanchez to pass to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanchez is working for a submission of some sort.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sanchez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Den circles away quickly and effectively. Sanchez tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Den is able to avoid easily. Den moves out of range as Sanchez strikes. Sanchez swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Den shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Den controlling the action here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Den is trying to control. Sanchez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Sanchez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Den is working away from the top position though. Den stops Sanchez from getting back to his feet.
Sanchez is looking to control Den's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sanchez avoid being mounted? Den with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fellacio Sanchez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Ray Den's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Sanchez misses the jab. Sanchez connects with a body shot. Nice defenses there by Den. Sanchez digs a good body shot into Den's ribs. Sanchez lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Den sprawling to the canvas. Sanchez follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Den hang on? This has been an exciting period of action! Sanchez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Sanchez gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Sanchez cracks Den on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Den falls backwards against the cage. Sanchez follows up with more strikes that drop Den to his knees. Sanchez keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Den! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Fellacio Sanchez!
