PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joe Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenny Renfrew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Green's entrance music is eye of the tiger. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kenny Renfrew!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jonathan Paton and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Renfrew showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Green.
No luck for Green with that takedown attempt.
Green scores with a three punch combo!
Green works over Renfrew's head and body with a nice combination.
Green scores with a hook to the body. Renfrew takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Green is trying hard to land a takedown here. Renfrew sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Renfrew falls off balance throwing a combination
and Green counters with a straight right hand.
Green lands a two punch combo.
Renfrew moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Green's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Green duly obliges.


It looks like Kenny Renfrew has been cut.
Left hook, right uppercut from Green.
Green is working the combinations to good effect here.
Green throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Green moves in looking to clinch but Renfrew pushes him off.

Renfrew feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Renfrew is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Green escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Renfrew gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Green is breathing heavily.
Green wants to stand but Renfrew is controlling the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Green gets caught flat footed, as Renfrew shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Green not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Green throws his legs up looking for a submission but Renfrew uses it to pass to side control.
Renfrew is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Green tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Renfrew wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The referee asks Renfrew politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Renfrew prefers to stall for the moment though.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kenny Renfrew.

and Green counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Renfrew thinking.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Renfrew keeps Green at a distance using the push kick.
Green misses with a series of wild punches.

Green tries to keep at a distance but Renfrew has taken the fight into the clinch.
Green has had enough of the clinch but Renfrew keeps him there for the moment.

Renfrew turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Renfrew manages to end up in side control.

I looks like Renfrew might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Joe Green will probably get the nod.

Green misses with a takedown

and Renfrew moves into the clinch.

Renfrew wants the takedown. Green is fighting it off but Renfrew persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Green's guard against the cage.

Green escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Renfrew gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Renfrew slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Green is trying to keep Renfrew in close.
Renfrew slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Green is looking to regain half guard here but Renfrew keeps moving and retains side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Green can't do much from the bottom here.

Green is trying to escape the position but Renfrew is controlling the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Renfrew closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Renfrew throws a strike aimed at the side of Green's head but Green avoids it well.
Renfrew takes a little break here. Green wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Green tries to get to full guard but Renfrew has control of the leg.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Renfrew thows a huge punch but Green dodges it nicely.
Green flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Renfrew is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Green is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Renfrew's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Renfrew's back!

Renfrew closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Renfrew lands in his opponent's guard.

Green is not content to let Renfrew control the position.

Well, if Renfrew is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

I think Renfrew has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
