PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Welbeck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Hudson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nathan Welbeck!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Hudson!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Donald Grub and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Welbeck gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A knee to the head by Welbeck.
Welbeck jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hudson walks away with a smile on his face. Welbeck gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Hudson tries to clinch up.
Welbeck moves out of range as Hudson throws a body kick.
Welbeck tries to clinch but Hudson moves out of range.
Welbeck fails with a takedown attempt.
Welbeck shoots in for a takedown but Hudson shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nathan Welbeck. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Welbeck wants to clinch.

Hudson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Welbeck is trying to defend but Hudson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Welbeck wants to improve his position but Hudson is controlling well.
Hudson scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Welbeck has one foot on Hudson's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Horrible takedown by Hudson or perhaps it was just good defense by Welbeck which made him look bad.
Hudson has a takedown stuffed.
Hudson circles away from the clinch attempt.
A combination from Welbeck does no damage.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Hudson.
Welbeck fails with the takedown

and Hudson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Welbeck won't be happy with that.
Hudson working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Welbeck manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hudson's best efforts.
Hudson wants to stand up but Welbeck manages to regain full guard.
Hudson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Hudson looks gassed!

Welbeck wants to get back to his feet but Hudson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Welbeck looking for a guillotine here but Hudson defends easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Welbeck is trying to keep Hudson in close.
Welbeck manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Welbeck lands with some strikes.
Hudson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Welbeck. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hudson really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Hudson tries to buck Welbeck off but he can't manage it.
Hudson is squirming around, avoiding Welbeck's attempts to control the action.
Hudson is in a horrible position here. Welbeck smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Hudson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Welbeck lands a heavy elbow.
Hudson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Welbeck sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Hudson wants to get back to his feet.
Hudson wants to hold on but Welbeck pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Nathan Welbeck will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Hudson throws a right hand that Welbeck ducks under and follows up with a left that Welbeck also avoids with ease.
Hudson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nathan Welbeck is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Welbeck tries to clinch but Hudson moves out of range.

Welbeck gets a clinch.

Welbeck has clasped his hands together around Hudson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Welbeck has hold of Hudson's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Hudson seems comfortable defending it but Welbeck has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Hudson is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Hudson is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Welbeck couldn't care less - he's delighted!
