Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nate Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lance Storm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maia comes to the cage accompanied by Go Ninja- Vanilla Ice. Lance Storm has the eye of the tiger tonight.

0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lance Storm! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Dean Styles and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Storm drives through and clinches with Maia against the cage.

Maia drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Storm gets the underhooks and prevents it.

It looks like Nate Maia has been cut. Storm manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Storm closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Maia is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Maia changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Storm fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Storm will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Maia up against the cage. Storm fails in his attempt to clinch. Storm connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Maia to the floor! Storm dives in looking for the finish!
Maia is rocked! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Storm looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Maia with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Oh Maia is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Maia tries to roll over but Storm keeps him under control. Storm looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Maia seems to have got his legs back now.

Storm looks gassed! Storm not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Maia wants to improve his position but Storm is controlling well.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Storm tries to close the distance and clinch up but Maia swats him away and circles back towards the center. Maia misses with an attempted mid kick.
Maia fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Maia. Storm moves into the clinch successfully.

Storm breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Maia shoots in and bounces Storm off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Maia passes Storm's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Maia trying to pass the guard but Storm defending well. Maia trying to control from half guard but Storm is working away. Maia seems to be looking for submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Maia missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Maia seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Storm does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Storm really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Maia is looking for a kimura here.
Maia is tying to control. Storm wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Storm moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Maia stands and throws Storm's legs to the side, diving into side control. Maia working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Storm manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A big head kick from Storm and Maia is sent sprawling to the canvas! Storm slips nicely into half guard. Storm slows the pace down in half guard. Storm is pressing down on Maia's thigh, looking to free his foot. Maia is holding on for now. Maia looking for submissions off his back. Maia wants to improve his position but Storm is controlling well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Maia fails with a takedown attempt. The fight moves into the clinch position. Storm stops a takedown attempt from Maia.
Storm lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Storm breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Maia changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Storm tries to avoid it but Maia manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Storm to the ground. Storm escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Lance Storm seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far. Maia jumps guard but Storm stands there with Maia around his waist. Maia gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Maia misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Storm moves in looking to clinch but Maia pushes him off. Storm fails with an attempt to clinch.

Maia wants to break free but Storm has control.
Storm escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Maia feints and as Storm raises his hands in defense, Maia changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Maia sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Storm's guard. Storm is in trouble now - Maia has advanced to mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia looking to control but Storm is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Storm is wriggling around trying to escape.
Maia has control of Storm's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Storm regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maia working some short elbows here. He postures up to throw some more ground and pound but Storm slips a leg through to get back to half guard. Nice work.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Storm is looking to control Maia's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Storm avoid being mounted?
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Maia takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Storm! Maia is out on his feet! Storm rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Maia is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Maia is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.
