The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A jab from Hardhand finds it's way through Gracie's defenses. Hardhand misses with a few strikes there.
Gracie changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hardhand looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hardhand is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Gracie advances nicely into full mount. Hardhand's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Gracie is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Gracie extends the arm and Hardhand is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Fernando Gracie!
