Dominguez comes to the ring accompanied by Vicente Fernández's Los Mandados. The crowd seem to be enjoying James's choice of entrance music: What's the difference. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Pablo Dominguez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rip James! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James thows a left - swing and a miss! Dominguez uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from James. James stuffs the takedown. Dominguez throws a right hand that James ducks under and follows up with a left that James also avoids with ease. Horrible takedown by Dominguez or perhaps it was just good defense by James which made him look bad. Dominguez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. James sprawls well initially but Dominguez persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Dominguez working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. James is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Dominguez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Dominguez's back! Dominguez rolls, trying to escape but James keeps control of the position.
James is working the ground and pound. Can Dominguez escape? James throwing sloppy strikes. Dominguez staying busy and making it hard for James to control. James is trying to stick to Dominguez's back but Dominguez is turning into James. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in James's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Dominguez. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Dominguez forces his way into half guard. Dominguez prevents James from improving his position. Dominguez tries to pass the half guard into mount. James knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Dominguez has gone for a leg lock! James slips out almost immediately though and dives into Dominguez's guard. James landing some decent shots from guard. James landing with the ground and pound. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. James won't allow Dominguez to sweep him here. James throws a big right hand that misses. James tries to free his leg and advance position but Dominguez is retaining full guard. James working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. James passes into half guard. Dominguez slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Dominguez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Dominguez is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Dominguez frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Dominguez lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Dominguez lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Dominguez cracks James with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Dominguez is landing with some decent strikes but James is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Dominguez scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. James sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. James slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Dominguez working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of James's head. Dominguez is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Dominguez wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James slips under a jab. Dominguez closes the distance and clinches up with James, looking for a takedown. Dominguez pushes James against the ropes but James circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Dominguez misses with an uppercut. Dominguez does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dominguez as he avoids it easily. Dominguez catches James with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Dominguez lands the left hand. James tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dominguez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten James somewhat. Dominguez misses with a looping right. Dominguez drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dominguez goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, James has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Dominguez but great work by James.
That's one minute gone in the round. James lands a decent elbow from side control. James scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Dominguez to see if he's OK. James landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. James has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. James wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dominguez keeps working. James misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

James makes his way to full guard. A much better position for James. James looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dominguez is one step ahead there.

Dominguez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard. Dominguez loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. James slips a jab from Dominguez. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. James takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Dominguez tries for a takedown but James circles away easily and James makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James is trying to control the action in half guard but Dominguez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. James not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Dominguez is looking for a sweep. James is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
