PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Felix Kuhn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rutten comes to the cage accompanied by Mudvayne-"Dig". Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bas Rutten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Felix Kuhn!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kuhn misses with a body kick.
Rutten circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rutten tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Rutten shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kuhn is trying to defend but Rutten finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Kuhn is trying to maintain the position but Rutten is very close to passing his half guard.
Kuhn is trying to control but Rutten passes into side control!
Rutten is looking to take a break and control but Kuhn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rutten is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kuhn has escaped the position, nice work there.
Kuhn can't do much from the bottom here.

Rutten goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kuhn has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Rutten but great work by Kuhn.
Kuhn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rutten keeps working.
Kuhn wants to stand but Rutten is controlling his arm.
Rutten prevents Kuhn from moving into mount.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kuhn throwing strikes but Rutten manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Rutten thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Rutten tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rutten has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kuhn is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Rutten's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Kuhn is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kuhn is trying to maintain the position but Rutten is very close to passing his half guard.

Rutten is stalling here. Kuhn is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Rutten seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Kuhn has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Kuhn goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Rutten rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kuhn's guard! Nice work there by Rutten!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kuhn trying to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rutten is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Rutten wants to control from the top but Kuhn keeps moving.

Kuhn has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rutten is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kuhn.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kuhn is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Rutten is controlling him well.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rutten looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Rutten is working Kuhn over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Rutten stands and throws Kuhn's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Kuhn is not content to let Rutten control the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Rutten tries for a kimura but Kuhn is defending well.
Kuhn tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rutten wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on Kuhn's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A solid body kick from Kuhn.

Rutten tries to keep at a distance but Kuhn has taken the fight into the clinch.

Kuhn drags the fight down to the ground.

Rutten trying to control but Kuhn is working from the bottom.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kuhn holds on and takes a little breather.

Rutten wants to control from the top but Kuhn keeps moving.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kuhn is on top in guard.
Kuhn looking to sit in guard and control but Rutten gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bas Rutten will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Rutten misses with a punch on the inside.
Kuhn scores with a shoulder strike.
Kuhn has Rutten pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rutten manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Rutten tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kuhn smiles and moves away.

Rutten is working for a kimura but Kuhn is defending it quite comfortably.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kuhn pushes Rutten off and gets back to his feet.

Kuhn clinches but Rutten breaks the clinch

and Rutten holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Kuhn tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Kuhn jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rutten walks away with a smile on his face. Kuhn gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Bas Rutten has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Felix Kuhn.

and Rutten counters by moving into the clinch.
Rutten tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kuhn smiles and moves away.
Rutten is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Rutten counters by moving into the clinch.

Kuhn breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Kuhn is trying to break free.
Rutten keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Kuhn's efforts to push away.

Kuhn fails to pull guard.
Kuhn prevents the takedown attempt.

Kuhn manages to break the clinch.

Kuhn closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kuhn lands in his opponent's guard.
Rutten is trying to control the position but Kuhn postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kuhn decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Rutten counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Rutten looking to pass the guard.
Rutten trying to control the position from guard on top but Kuhn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kuhn is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rutten is aware though and is defending well.
Felix Kuhn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bas Rutten is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kuhn throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bas Rutten showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rutten, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
