Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pedrinho Matador! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlson Gracie! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Alexandre Firmino and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Matador looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Matador is not content to let Gracie control the position. Matador tries to buck Gracie off but Gracie is having none of it. Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Gracie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Gracie wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Matador, who protects the arm well. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Matador is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Gracie is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Gracie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Gracie trying to control the position but Matador is working away.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Carlson Gracie. Gracie drives through with a takedown into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Matador is keeping the position for now. Gracie pushes down on Matador's leg and manages to get into half guard. Gracie passes to side control. Matador is not content to let Gracie control the position. Gracie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Matador has escaped the position, nice work there. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Matador tries to improve position but can't. Gracie has hold of Matador's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Matador seems comfortable defending it but Gracie has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Matador is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Matador is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Gracie couldn't care less - he's delighted!
