Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Oleg Taktarov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Josh Byron! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taktarov misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Byron.
Taktarov throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Byron buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Taktarov throws a right and a left that Byron avoids nicely. Byron moves in looking to clinch but Taktarov pushes him off. Taktarov throws a series of punches but Byron moves out of range. Byron wants to stand and escape but instead Taktarov has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Taktarov thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Byron wants to get back to his feet but Taktarov is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Taktarov loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Taktarov wants to stand but Byron has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Byron wants to stand but Taktarov is controlling the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. A solid body kick from Byron. Taktarov keeps the fight on the outside. A solid body kick from Byron. Byron scores with a head kick.

Byron tries to close the distance and clinch but Taktarov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Taktarov is trying hard to land a takedown here. Byron lands with a kick to the temple. Taktarov shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Taktarov stuffs the takedown. Byron wants to clinch. Taktarov misses with the combination.
Byron rushes Taktarov and presses him up against the cage. Taktarov is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Byron is looking to break free of the clinch but Taktarov has double underhooks. Nice elbow from Byron. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Byron gets underhooks to prevent Taktarov's takedown attempt.

Taktarov closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Byron did well to prevent Taktarov getting side control. Byron is trying to stand up here but Taktarov is controlling him well. Taktarov is looking for a kimura here.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Taktarov breaks from Byron's wrist control and lands an elbow. Taktarov throws some wild stikes that Byron manages to avoid easily.

But Byron has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Byron! Byron postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Byron looking to sit in guard and control but Taktarov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Taktarov's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Taktarov throws a combination that misses and Byron counters with a head kick. No luck with that takedown attempt from Taktarov. Byron tries to clinch there but Taktarov circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Taktarov is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Byron. Taktarov swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Byron holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Byron putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Taktarov in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Taktarov scores a takedown into full mount! Both fighters are breathing heavily. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Byron regains control of the situation pretty easily.
