PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Loocke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Paul Pulido (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Paul Pulido is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Loocke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Paul Pulido!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Loocke moves into the clinch.
Loocke blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Pulido dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Pulido has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Loocke is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Loocke.

Pulido is trying to trip Loocke. He has hold of a leg but Loocke is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Pulido persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Pulido stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Loocke swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Loocke is controlling Pulido's posture.
Pulido throwing strikes from guard but Loocke blocks nicely.
Pulido trying to control the position from guard on top but Loocke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Loocke might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Loocke is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Pulido throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Pulido advances position into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pulido creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Loocke sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
You can see the frustration on Loocke's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Loocke tries to clinch up.
Loocke cracks Pulido with a good jab.
Pulido looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Loocke is fending him off so far but Pulido persists. Nope, Loocke circles away and we're back to standing.

Loocke clinches.
Pulido goes for a takedown attempt but Loocke pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
John Loocke has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Paul Pulido.
Pulido looks gassed!
Loocke tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pulido swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Loocke gets the takedown into side control.
Pulido gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Loocke is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Pulido manages to get to full guard.

Loocke is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Pulido looking to hit a scissor sweep but Loocke is one step ahead there.
Loocke throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pulido works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Loocke tries to stand but Pulido is controlling from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Loocke dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Pulido misses with a takedown attempt

and Loocke counters with a single leg into guard. Pulido didn't expect that.
Loocke has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Loocke trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Loocke has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pulido is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Loocke wants to control from the top but Pulido keeps moving.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pulido has Loocke pulled in close to control his posture.
Pulido wants to sweep here but Loocke controlling him for the moment.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Pulido is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Loocke clinches up with Pulido and pushes him back against the cage.
Pulido can't find room to land a body shot as Loocke controls the action.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Pulido obliges.

Pulido jumps guard.
Loocke wants to control from the top but Pulido keeps moving.
Pulido has Loocke pulled in close to control his posture.

Pulido wriggles free and stands up.
John Loocke is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Pulido bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Pulido landing strikes.
Pulido working away.
Pulido in side control, throwing shots but Loocke defends.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Loocke will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Loocke cracks Pulido with a right hand to the side of the head.
Loocke tries to clinch there but Pulido circles away.
Loocke tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Loocke misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

and Loocke counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Loocke is just content to waste time from the top position. Pulido takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Pulido is trying to keep Loocke in close.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Loocke would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Loocke stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pulido swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Loocke trying to control the position from guard on top but Pulido is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Pulido thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Loocke is looking to clinch.
Pulido with a lazy takedown attempt
and Loocke counters with a two punch combo.
Pulido misses with a takedown
and Loocke connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
John Loocke has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Paul Pulido.
Loocke tries to close the distance and clinch but Pulido swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Loocke counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pulido's guard now.
Pulido is pulling down on Loocke's head. It's preventing any offense from Loocke, at least for the moment.
John Loocke is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Loocke won't allow Pulido to sweep him here.

Loocke looking to pass the guard.
Pulido keeping moving, preventing Loocke from controlling successfully.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Loocke showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Loocke has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
