PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonny Robertson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sonatas Small (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Robertson has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jonny Robertson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sonatas Small!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Small looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Robertson dodges the punch combination from Small.
Robertson takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Small shoots in but no luck this time.

Robertson is breathing heavily.
Robertson regains half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Small in particular looking to stall.
Small tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Robertson.
Small controlling the pace.

Robertson won't allow Small to pass to mount.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Small is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Small missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Robertson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Small in particular looking to stall.
Small not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Small dives in and grabs Robertson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Robertson pushes down on Small's head and hops out.
Robertson swats away the attempt to clinch by Small.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Small.
Jonny Robertson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sonatas Small.
Small dives in and grabs Robertson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Robertson pushes down on Small's head and hops out.
Small shoots in for a takedown but Robertson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Small looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Robertson!
The referee warns Robertson that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Robertson is in a horrible position here. Small smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Robertson wants to control but Small is having none of it.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
A nice elbow there by Small.
Small controlling his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sonatas Small dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Small gets the takedown into side control.
Small scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Robertson to see if he's OK.

Robertson takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Small controlling the pace for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Small's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Small wants to finish this one by submission but Robertson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Small.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Small moves to the back.

Small working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Robertson is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Small has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Robertson taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Sonatas Small!
