PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wladimir Reis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chop Shuey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Reis might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Racionais MCs - A Vida é Desafio. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wladimir Reis!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chop Shuey!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Reis showed some decent athleticism there.

Shuey actively working from the bottom here.
Reis lands strikes from half guard.
Reis lands with a punch from half guard.
Reis works his way into side control.
Reis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shuey keeps working.
Shuey is looking for a sweep.

Reis is trying to get an arm triangle but Shuey is defending well.
Shuey is trying to control Reis's posture but Reis avoids it.
Shuey regains half guard, as Reis was trying to land strikes.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Reis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shuey swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Shuey is looking for a triangle but Reis pushes his legs off easily.

Reis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Reis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Reis stays in close to Shuey's body and controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shuey tries to hold on but Reis postures up.

Reis is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Shuey is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee warns Shuey that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Reis wants to control the pace but Shuey is squirming around nicely.

Reis closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Reis lands in his opponent's guard.

Shuey working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Reis slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Reis postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Shuey is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Reis, into his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Reis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Reis scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Shuey to see if he's OK.

Shuey with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Reis to score with a decent uppercut.
