PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Heartman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jin Demon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Heartman comes to the cage accompanied by Heartman Theme song. Jin Demon will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Heartman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jin Demon!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Demon scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Heartman looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Heartman trying to control from half guard but Demon is working away.
Demon is looking to escape.
Heartman wants to take a breather but Demon is having none of it.

Heartman seems to be working for a kimura but Demon defends the submission attempt.
Heartman throwing shots but Demon is blocking nicely.
Heartman content to control rather than advance.
Demon looks like he's trying to stand up.

Demon with the active half guard here but Heartman passes nicely into side control.

Heartman is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Demon is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Demon wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Demon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Heartman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The ground and pound from Heartman seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Demon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Demon fails with an attempt to clinch.
Demon throws a series of punches but Heartman avoids them all with ease.

Heartman shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Demon wants to control but Heartman is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Demon throws a nice looking combination but Heartman bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Heartman has Demon up against the cage in a clinch.
Demon drops down looking for an ankle pick but Heartman pulls his leg out and moves away.
Demon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Heartman as he jumps to the side.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Demon looks to clinch

and Heartman counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Heartman prevents Demon from getting back to his feet.

Demon has his feet on Heartman's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Heartman gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Demon wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Heartman has him pressed against the cage.

Heartman breaks from the clinch.
Heartman gets cracked there but stands up to it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Heartman shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Demon is trying to defend but Heartman finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Heartman looks for a takedown but Demon sprawls well.

Heartman looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Heartman stalling away here and it's allowed Demon to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Demon wants to stand up but Heartman is controlling him.
Demon keeping moving, preventing Heartman from controlling successfully.
Demon wants to stand and escape but Heartman is having none of it.
Demon wants to control the position but Heartman says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Demon wants to get back to his feet.
Heartman trying to control from half guard but Demon is working away.
John Heartman is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Heartman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
