Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Machado! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oscar Alarcon! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Machado blocks a jab. Alarcon throws a head kick but Machado moves out of range.
Alarcon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Oscar Alarcon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Alarcon tries a head kick but it misses.
Machado tries for a takedown but Alarcon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Alarcon scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. A combination from Alarcon does no damage. Machado drives through with a takedown into guard. Machado stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alarcon swivels though and keeps the full guard. Machado has gone for a leg lock! Alarcon slips out almost immediately though and dives into Machado's guard. Alarcon preventing the sweep. Machado is working hard here to advance position. Machado looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Alarcon passes into half guard.
Alarcon seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alarcon is looking to take a break and control but Machado is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Machado looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Machado gets full guard. Alarcon trying to control the position from guard on top but Machado is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Machado throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Alarcon trying to control but Machado is working from the bottom. Machado utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Machado looking to hit a scissor sweep but Alarcon is one step ahead there. Alarcon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Machado. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Alarcon trying to control but Machado is working from the bottom. Machado can't keep his opponent in guard - Alarcon advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Machado is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Alarcon jumps into side control! Machado sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Machado wants to improve his position but Alarcon is controlling well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Machado works his way to full guard. Good work. Machado is breathing heavily. Machado working for a triangle but Alarcon defends it easily.
Machado had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Alarcon is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Machado Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Alarcon's back instead. Alarcon is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Machado off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. Alarcon trying to get back to his feet but Machado is in full control for now. Machado patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Machado is looking for the choke from the back position but Alarcon is controlling his hands well. Alarcon has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Machado working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Machado avoiding Alarcon 's attempts to control his hands. Alarcon fending off the submission attempt from Machado. Machado is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Alarcon with him. Alarcon is trying to defend but Machado has an arm under the chin now! Alarcon grimaces and is forced to tap out!
