PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gangles McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bender Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGee comes into the arena with Rottencore by Spitting Vitriol blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez throws a body punch but McGee moves out of range.

McGee drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
McGee wanted to stand there but Rodriguez had control of the position.
Rodriguez is looking to stand up but McGee isn't so interested in that idea.
McGee throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rodriguez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Rodriguez kicks McGee off and gets to his feet.
Rodriguez throws a body punch but McGee moves out of range.
Rodriguez leaves McGee with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by McGee or perhaps it was just good defense by Rodriguez which made him look bad.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGee is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rodriguez is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rodriguez wants to control from the top but McGee keeps moving.
McGee really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Rodriguez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst McGee is controlling him.

Rodriguez wriggles free and stands up.
McGee closes the distance and lands a one-two.
McGee tries for a takedown but Rodriguez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

McGee shoots in and drives through. Rodriguez sprawls well.

McGee scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Rodriguez doesn't seem bothered though.

McGee bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Rodriguez's head.

and McGee counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
McGee is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

McGee decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Rodriguez swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and McGee counters with a slapping leg kick.
McGee will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Rodriguez takes a shot to the body in his stride.
McGee is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

and McGee counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Rodriguez is looking to escape.
McGee perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
McGee stops Rodriguez from getting back to his feet.
McGee will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
McGee is controlling the pace.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Rodriguez is looking to escape.
Rodriguez is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
McGee slows the pace down in half guard.

McGee decides to stand and escape the position.
Rodriguez misses the body punch
and McGee counters with a series of strikes. Rodriguez will be more careful next time no doubt.
McGee closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rodriguez circles away.
McGee tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

McGee goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
McGee tries to close the distance and clinch but Rodriguez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and McGee counters with a huge uppercut, hook combination that drops Rodriguez! The ref has seen enough - he's dived in to stop the fight! Brutal strikes by McGee!
