Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bryan Bernie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Silvester Szymanski! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bernie decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Szymanski blocking the ground and pound attempt from Bernie. Bernie wants to pass to mount but Szymanski is defending the position. Szymanski has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bernie is working away from the top position though. Szymanski looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Bernie wants to pass the guard but Szymanski is defending well. Szymanski tries to kick Bernie off but Bernie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Szymanski looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Bernie passes to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bernie tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. The fight moves into the clinch position. Szymanski wants to get back to striking at distance but Bernie won't allow it.
Bernie is stalling here.
Szymanski has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Bernie is trying to keep an underhook but Szymanski manages to get the takedown into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bernie wants to improve his position but Szymanski is controlling well.
Szymanski thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bernie's head. Szymanski wants to stand but Bernie has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Szymanski trying to control the action but Bernie is working from the bottom. Bernie moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Bernie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Bernie moves in looking to clinch but Szymanski pushes him off. Szymanski tries for a takedown but Bernie circles away easily and Bernie counters with a takedown into side control. Szymanski looks gassed!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bernie advances nicely into full mount. Szymanski wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Bernie landing strikes, looking to finish! Szymanski holds on to Bernie as tight as he can, avoiding damage.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Bernie goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Szymanski is on top in guard.
Szymanski has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Bernie to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Szymanski is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Bernie pulls down on the head and he's put Szymanski to sleep! This one is all over!
