The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Steel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alves gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Steel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Alves is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Alves trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Steel utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Alves really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Steel is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Steel is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Alves can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Steel loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Steel got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alves has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Steel has managed to get both his arms back between Alves's legs - danger averted.
