PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ham Den Syge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Catcher Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Catcher Freeman struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.4lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Catcher Freeman will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Freeman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Freeman wants it to stay on the feet.

and Den Syge counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Freeman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Den Syge clinches up against the cage.
Den Syge tries to break free but Freeman pushes him back against the cage.

Den Syge breaks the clinch.
Freeman throws a right and a left that both miss.
Freeman slaps away a takedown attempt from Den Syge, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Den Syge closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Den Syge lands in his opponent's guard.
Den Syge wants to control from the top but Freeman keeps moving.

Freeman is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Freeman can't keep his opponent in guard - Den Syge advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Den Syge content to control rather than advance.
Den Syge's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ham Den Syge.
Freeman takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Den Syge misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Den Syge fails in his attempt to clinch.
Den Syge shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Freeman sprawls well. Freeman wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Den Syge gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ham Den Syge. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Den Syge throws a head kick but Freeman moves out of range.

Den Syge shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Den Syge thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Freeman's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Freeman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Den Syge throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Freeman's waist but Freeman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Den Syge off to one side.
Freeman throws a half hearted mid kick.
Den Syge dives in and grabs Freeman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Freeman pushes down on Den Syge's head and hops out.
Freeman throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Den Syge counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Freeman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Den Syge looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Well, if Den Syge is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Den Syge stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Freeman is breathing heavily.

Freeman keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Den Syge throws a sloppy head kick and Freeman moves out of range easily.

and Freeman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Den Syge's guard.

Den Syge has Freeman pulled in close to control his posture.

Den Syge lunges at Freeman with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Freeman's hand.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Den Syge scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Den Syge tries to advance to mount but can't.

Den Syge is trying to get an arm triangle but Freeman is defending well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Freeman can do anything to dispel that myth.

Den Syge stands up and beckons Freeman to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Den Syge gets the takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ham Den Syge dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Den Syge slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Den Syge looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Freeman is fending him off so far but Den Syge persists. Nope, Freeman circles away and we're back to standing.

Den Syge closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Freeman takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Ham Den Syge is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Den Syge is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Freeman has escaped the position, nice work there.

Ham Den Syge showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Den Syge, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
