PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jamie Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jamie Henderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel John!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Sam Margolis and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
John tries to score a power double leg takedown but Henderson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten John somewhat.
John stuffs the takedown attempt from Henderson. Henderson gets slowly back to his feet.
John shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Henderson counters with a shoot takedown. John fights it but they end up in guard.
John throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Henderson trying to control the position from guard on top but John is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
John really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Henderson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Henderson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

John has his foot on Henderson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Henderson works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Henderson distracts John with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
John fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Henderson looks to land a combination. John sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

and Henderson counters with a nice double leg into side control. John won't be happy with that.
Henderson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Henderson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Henderson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Henderson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

John pushes Henderson away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Henderson gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Henderson misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
John is looking to regain half guard here but Henderson keeps moving and retains side control.
John managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Henderson.
You can see the frustration on John's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Henderson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around John's waist but John gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Henderson off to one side.

and Henderson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Henderson.

Henderson gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


John shoots in looking for a takedown. Henderson tries to sprawl out of it but John keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Henderson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

John can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Henderson controls the pace.
John is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
John might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Henderson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Henderson is nestled in close to John, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
John is staying active underneath Henderson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
