Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eugene Canedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Alkofer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Christian Alkofer has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eugene Canedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Christian Alkofer!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Canedo is looking to clinch.
Canedo tries to clinch but Alkofer is having none of it.

Alkofer shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Alkofer tries to pass the half guard into mount. Canedo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Canedo is looking to escape.
Alkofer is pressing down on Canedo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Canedo is holding on for now.
Alkofer trying to advance position but Canedo counters by regaining guard.

Alkofer drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Canedo dives on top into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alkofer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Canedo wants to get up but he can't break Alkofer's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Alkofer can do anything to dispel that myth.
Canedo is looking to work some ground and pound but Alkofer has wrist control.
Canedo trying to control the position from guard on top but Alkofer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Canedo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Canedo gets to his feet. Alkofer looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Canedo closes the distance and pushes Alkofer back into the cage.
Canedo keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Alkofer's efforts to push away.
Alkofer takes an elbow to the forehead.

Alkofer jumps guard but Canedo stands there with Alkofer around his waist. Alkofer gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Alkofer fails to pull guard.
Canedo taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Alkofer goes for a takedown attempt but Canedo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Eugene Canedo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Christian Alkofer.
Canedo is looking to clinch.

Alkofer scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Alkofer is pressing down on Canedo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Canedo is holding on for now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Alkofer jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Canedo is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Canedo and Alkofer has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Canedo manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Christian Alkofer will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Canedo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Alkofer paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Canedo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Canedo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Alkofer decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Canedo's guard.
Alkofer sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Canedo's guard.
Canedo wants to get back to his feet.
Alkofer works his foot free and advances to mount.
Canedo has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Alkofer is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Canedo defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Canedo is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Canedo turns into Alkofer and is now in his guard.
Canedo throwing strikes from guard but Alkofer blocks nicely.
Christian Alkofer has got the better of the ground game so far.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Alkofer scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Alkofer passes to side control.
Alkofer tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Canedo wants to get back to his feet.

Alkofer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Christian Alkofer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Alkofer drops back, looking for a kneebar! Canedo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Canedo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Canedo!

Canedo is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Canedo sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Canedo wants to advance to full mount but Alkofer doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Eugene Canedo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Alkofer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Alkofer wants to sweep but no luck.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Canedo darts in trying to clinch

and Alkofer counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Alkofer has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Canedo really wants to buck Alkofer off and get back to his feet.
Canedo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Alkofer mounts Canedo! Really nice guard pass there!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Canedo stops Alkofer from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Alkofer is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Canedo to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Canedo shrugs it off.
Canedo is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Alkofer works his way to his opponent's back.
Alkofer is trying to stick to Canedo's back but Canedo is turning into Alkofer. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Alkofer's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Canedo.
Alkofer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Canedo throws a big right hand that misses.
Christian Alkofer is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Christian Alkofer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Alkofer winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
