Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Taco Train! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ben Schaefer! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paulsen Ambrosius and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schaefer dodges the punch combination from Train.
Train has closed the distance and engaged Schaefer in a clinch.
Train drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Schaefer gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Schaefer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Schaefer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes. Schaefer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Train wants to clinch. Schaefer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Train looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Train staying out of range there. Schaefer lands an overhand right. Train shoots for a takedown but Schaefer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Taco Train. That's going to take a lot out of him. Schaefer gets caught flat footed, as Train shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Train trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Schaefer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Train's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Train keeping full guard, as Schaefer tries to pass. Schaefer trying to control the position from guard on top but Train is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Train looking to hit a scissor sweep but Schaefer is one step ahead there. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Schaefer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Train swivels though and keeps the full guard. Train is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Schaefer throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Schaefer throws a shot from downtown. Train moves away and avoids it. Train shoots in looking for a takedown. Schaefer tries to sprawl out of it but Train keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Schaefer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Train throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Train tries for a takedown but Schaefer sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Train is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Schaefer's half guard. Schaefer actively working from the bottom here. Schaefer is looking to improve his position.
Schaefer is pressing down on Train's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Schaefer looking for a guillotine here but Train defends easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Schaefer is on top in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schaefer trying to control the position from guard on top but Train is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Schaefer throws a big right hand that misses. Train manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Schaefer really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Schaefer wants to hold on but Train pushes him away. Schaefer is trying to escape the mount.
Train working the ground and pound effectively.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Train cracks Schaefer with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Train landing shots from mount. Train landing strikes from the mount. Schaefer is working to get back to half guard.
Train connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Schaefer keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Schaefer is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Train lands a big elbow. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Train looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Train lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Train is landing with some decent strikes but Schaefer is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Taco Train dominated that round. That's time! Train's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Train throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Train looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Train shoots in for a double leg but Schaefer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Train checks a low kick from Schaefer. Train has a takedown stuffed. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Taco Train. That's going to take a lot out of him. Train fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Train closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Schaefer manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Schaefer is trying to get back to full guard. Train is keen to just control but Schaefer is a slippery customer. Schaefer is pressing down on Train's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Train connects with a couple of short punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Train preventing the sweep. Schaefer looking to control.
Taco Train overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Train has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Schaefer to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Train is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Schaefer pulls down on the head and he's put Train to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Ben Schaefer! Ben Schaefer is the new welterweight champion!
