Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between EJ Whitten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Screech Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). EJ Whitten is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, EJ Whitten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Screech Powers!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Columbo Gatti and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitten shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Powers pinned against the cage. Powers gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Whitten shoots in but no luck this time.

Whitten fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Powers sprawls well initially but Whitten persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Powers tries to get to full guard but Whitten has control of the leg.
Whitten thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Powers's head.
Whitten is tying to control. Powers wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Powers tries to get to full guard but Whitten has control of the leg.
Powers keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Powers moves into full guard.
Whitten preventing the sweep.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Whitten shoots in but Powers avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for EJ Whitten. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Whitten forces Powers back against the cage and clinches.
Powers fails to pull guard.
Powers has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Whitten avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Whitten pulls guard effortlessly.
Whitten is trying to keep Powers in close.
Whitten is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Powers throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Whitten works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Whitten wants to sweep but no luck.
Powers forces his way into half guard.
Powers thows a huge punch but Whitten dodges it nicely.
Whitten manages to get to full guard.
Whitten is breathing heavily.
Powers working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Whitten's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Powers throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Whitten tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Powers postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Whitten trying to keep a closed guard but Powers is proving a slippery customer.
Powers is looking to work some ground and pound but Whitten has wrist control.
Powers cracks Whitten with a solid left hand.

Powers thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Whitten working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Powers doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Powers manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Powers with a nice head shot there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Screech Powers will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Whitten takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Whitten closes this distance looking for a takedown but Powers circles away.

Powers gets caught flat footed, as Whitten shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Whitten won't allow Powers to sweep him here.
Powers bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Whitten's guard.
Powers wants to control from the top but Whitten keeps moving.

Powers doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Powers throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Whitten wants to get up but he can't break Powers's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Powers escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Whitten gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Powers is breathing heavily.

Whitten is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Powers wants to sweep but no luck.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Whitten stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Powers swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Whitten wants to control from the top but Powers keeps moving.
Powers throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Powers looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Whitten puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Whitten is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Powers moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Powers looking for a sweep. Not yet Powers, not yet.

Powers had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Whitten is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Powers Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Whitten's back instead.
Powers is trying to stick to Whitten's back but Whitten is turning into Powers. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Powers's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Whitten.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Powers avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Whitten trying to control but Powers is working from the bottom.

Powers throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Whitten throwing strikes from guard but Powers blocks nicely.
Whitten distracts Powers with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Whitten looking to sit in guard and control but Powers gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Whitten is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Whitten bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Powers's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that EJ Whitten will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Powers throws a right and a left that Whitten avoids nicely.
Horrible takedown by Whitten or perhaps it was just good defense by Powers which made him look bad.
Powers misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Whitten.
Whitten is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Whitten has a takedown stuffed.
Nice takedown defense from Powers. No joy for Whitten on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for EJ Whitten. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Whitten fails to land the takedown.
Whitten tries for a takedown but Powers sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Powers drops Whitten with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Whitten looks back up at him and smiles so Powers waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Whitten is rocked!


It looks like EJ Whitten has been cut.
A jab from Powers misses.
Oh Whitten is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Powers tries to keep at a distance but Whitten has taken the fight into the clinch.

Whitten breaks from the clinch.
Whitten uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Powers.
Whitten seems to have got his legs back now.
Powers takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Powers swats away the attempt to clinch by Whitten.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Whitten keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Whitten shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Whitten was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Whitten looking to secure an arm triangle but Powers defends it well.
The referee warns Powers that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.


It looks like Screech Powers has been cut.

Whitten is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Whitten closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Whitten lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whitten trying to control but Powers is working from the bottom.

Whitten drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Powers dives on top into guard.
Powers pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Whitten is keeping the position for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Whitten looking to control.

Whitten working for a triangle but Powers defends it easily.
Powers passes into half guard.
Whitten works his way to full guard. Good work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Whitten trying to control the position.
EJ Whitten overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Whitten throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Whitten is on top in guard.
Whitten looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

And that's the end of the fight!
EJ Whitten showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Whitten has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
