Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Clarence Azarcon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ramon The Diamond! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Azarcon shoots for a double leg takedown but The Diamond sprawls well. He's pushed Azarcon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. No luck with that takedown attempt from Azarcon. Azarcon misses with a looping left. The Diamond with a lazy takedown attempt so Azarcon counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. The Diamond wants to stand up but Azarcon is controlling him. Azarcon is breathing heavily. Azarcon postures up in The Diamond's guard and throws a big left but The Diamond blocks it. Azarcon wants to control from the top but The Diamond keeps moving. Azarcon not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's one minute gone in the round. The Diamond is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The Diamond preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. The Diamond shoots in and bounces Azarcon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. The Diamond tries to stand but Azarcon is controlling from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The Diamond trying to control but Azarcon is working from the bottom. Azarcon looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. The Diamond throwing strikes from guard but Azarcon blocks nicely. The Diamond trying to control but Azarcon is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The Diamond wanted to stand there but Azarcon had control of the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. The Diamond with a lazy takedown attempt and Azarcon counters with a shoot takedown. The Diamond fights it but they end up in guard. Azarcon stands up from guard. Let's bang! The Diamond wants to clinch but Azarcon slips to the side and Azarcon counters with a nice double leg into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Azarcon working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Azarcon is thwarting The Diamond's attempts to control the position. The Diamond tries to kick Azarcon off but Azarcon keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Azarcon not doing much here.
Azarcon works his way into side control. The Diamond is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Azarcon is controlling him well. Azarcon cracks The Diamond with an elbow. That is naaassty. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Azarcon in side control, just content to control the action for now. The Diamond bucks up and tries to throw Azarcon off but instead Azarcon has got his back! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Clarence Azarcon dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
The Diamond gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Azarcon counters with a shoot takedown. The Diamond fights it but they end up in guard. Clarence Azarcon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Azarcon wants to control from the top but The Diamond keeps moving. The Diamond looking for a sweep. Not yet The Diamond, not yet. Azarcon looking to sit in guard and control but The Diamond gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. The Diamond trying to stand up but can't free himself from Azarcon's guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Azarcon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in The Diamond's guard. Azarcon connects with a couple of short punches. The Diamond has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Azarcon has passed into side control.
Azarcon decides to take the fight back to the feet. The Diamond gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Azarcon counters with a shoot takedown. The Diamond fights it but they end up in guard. The Diamond is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Azarcon is pushing down on The Diamond's leg trying to pass to half guard. The Diamond is fighting to maintain full guard but Azarcon has managed to sneak the leg through. Azarcon scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Azarcon escapes and gets back to his feet. The Diamond tries for a takedown but Azarcon circles away easily and Azarcon counters with a takedown into side control. Clarence Azarcon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ramon The Diamond. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Azarcon takes a little break here. The Diamond wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. The Diamond prevents Azarcon from improving position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The Diamond is pushing Azarcon's head away, looking to escape. Azarcon manages to hold on to the position though. Azarcon working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. The Diamond taking punishment in the form of punches.
The Diamond is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Azarcon tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Azarcon has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. The ground and pound from Azarcon seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Azarcon tries to advance to mount but The Diamond denies him. Azarcon tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Azarcon has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The Diamond wants to get back to his feet but Azarcon drags him back down. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Clarence Azarcon dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
The Diamond's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and The Diamond duly obliges. Azarcon shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Azarcon showed some decent athleticism there. Azarcon prevents The Diamond from standing back up.
The Diamond is trying to control but can't.
The Diamond is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Azarcon is looking to advance position but The Diamond won't allow it. Azarcon is working hard here to advance position. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Azarcon landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. The Diamond wants to get back to his feet. Azarcon stands up and beckons The Diamond to join him on the feet. Azarcon takes the fight into the clinch. The Diamond looks to throw an elbow but misses. Azarcon taking a breather. Azarcon has The Diamond pressed against the cage, preventing The Diamond from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. The Diamond is looking to break free of the clinch but Azarcon has double underhooks. The Diamond working hard to break the clinch. Azarcon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. The Diamond blocks a head kick by Azarcon.
Azarcon tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but The Diamond swivels and escapes. The Diamond swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Azarcon counters by moving into the clinch. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Azarcon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as The Diamond walks away with a smile on his face. Azarcon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Azarcon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. The Diamond defends it nicely. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clarence Azarcon. That's going to take a lot out of him. The Diamond misses with a takedown attempt and Azarcon counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for The Diamond! The Diamond really wants to buck Azarcon off and get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The Diamond taking shots to the head. Azarcon looking to control and managing it successfully. Azarcon working for a submission but The Diamond is keeping him at bay. Azarcon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. The Diamond's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Azarcon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Azarcon can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as The Diamond is looking to escape. Azarcon controlling from the full mount.
And that's the end of the fight! Clarence Azarcon showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Azarcon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
