PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Noy Pi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Espino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Espino is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Apple Juice by Taintstick. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Tony Espino enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Noy Pi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tony Espino!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Espino does no damage.
Espino slaps away a takedown attempt from Pi, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Espino throws a lazy right hand but Pi sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Espino gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Pi counters with a left and a right that stings Espino.
Espino throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Espino has his takedown stuffed

and Pi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Espino won't be happy with that.
Espino tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Pi misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Espino pushes Pi away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Pi gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Espino sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Pi thows a huge punch but Espino dodges it nicely.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Noy Pi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Espino.

Pi is working Espino over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Espino is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Pi stops Espino from standing up.
Espino is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Pi misses with a series of wild punches.
Pi fails with a takedown attempt.
Pi misses with a few strikes there.
Espino shoots for a takedown but Pi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Pi blocks a head kick by Espino.

Espino gets the takedown into side control.

Espino tries for a kimura but Pi is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pi manages to get back to half guard.

Espino seems to be working for a kimura but Pi defends the submission attempt.

and Pi counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Espino's guard now.
Pi has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Espino is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pi defends well.

Espino bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pi's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Espino decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Espino throws a leg kick but Pi sees it coming and moves out of range.
Pi avoids a punch combination nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Noy Pi dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Espino misses with a series of wild punches.
Pi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Espino but Espino pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Pi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Espino's half guard.

Espino kicks off Pi and gets to his feet.
Tony Espino seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Espino misses with a double jab.
Pi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Espino connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Pi momentarily.

Espino drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Espino drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Espino jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Espino got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Espino has managed to get both his arms back between Pi's legs - danger averted.
Espino lands a couple of digs.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Horrible takedown by Espino or perhaps it was just good defense by Pi which made him look bad.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Espino throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Pi.
Pi fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Noy Pi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Espino swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Espino thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Espino is keen to just control but Pi is a slippery customer.

Espino is looking for a kimura but Pi is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Espino to get the leverage.

Espino is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Espino prevents Pi from improving his position.
Espino lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Espino frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Noy Pi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Tony Espino showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Espino works his foot free and advances to mount.

Poor strikes thrown by Espino there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Espino working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Pi looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Espino! Submission of the night perhaps?
