Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brian Hopewell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erin Melcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brian Hopewell could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Erin Melcher's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Brian Hopewell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Erin Melcher!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Eddie Farnsworth and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hopewell shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Hopewell is trying to control the action in half guard but Melcher is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Hopewell seems to be looking for submissions.
Melcher is looking for a sweep. Hopewell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hopewell is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Melcher has managed to free his arm - good work.

so Melcher counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Melcher is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Melcher wants to stand but Hopewell is controlling his posture from full guard.
Melcher stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hopewell swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hopewell holds on and takes a little breather.
Hopewell looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Melcher drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hopewell manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Melcher has Hopewell in his guard.

Hopewell stands up from guard. Let's bang!

You can see the frustration on Melcher's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Hopewell is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Melcher is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Melcher pushes Hopewell away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hopewell gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

and Melcher counters with a shoot takedown. Hopewell fights it but they end up in guard.

Melcher drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hopewell looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hopewell looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hopewell!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Melcher scores with a takedown into Hopewell's guard.
Hopewell tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Melcher stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hopewell swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Melcher throws a couple of heel strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Erin Melcher showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hopewell pushes a forearm under Melcher's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Melcher is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
