PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tche Bagual (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fydor Espada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tche Bagual!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fydor Espada!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Espada, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Bagual throws a nice looking combination but Espada bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Bagual on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Espada. Espada obviously looking to wear him down.
Espada throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Espada shoots in and drives through. Bagual sprawls well.
Espada lunges at Bagual with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Bagual's hand.


It looks like Tche Bagual has been cut.
No joy there for Espada, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Espada keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Espada has his takedown stuffed

so Bagual counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Espada is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bagual tries to kick Espada off but Espada keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Bagual works his way to full guard. Good work.
Espada postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Bagual looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Bagual is working an open guard so Espada takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Espada looks gassed!

Espada clinches.
Espada tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Tche Bagual has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fydor Espada.
Espada fails to pull guard.

Bagual is fighting off a takedown attempt but Espada is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Bagual to the mat. Bagual regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Espada drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Bagual dives on top into guard.

Bagual passes Espada's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Bagual seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bagual trying to control the action but Espada is working from the bottom.
Bagual wants to pass the guard but Espada is defending well.

Bagual is keen to just control but Espada is a slippery customer.

Bagual decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Espada is refusing to be controlled, as Bagual sits in half guard.

Bagual is just content to waste time from the top position. Espada takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Espada keeping moving, preventing Bagual from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Tche Bagual.
Espada bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Bagual's head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Espada tries to clinch there but Bagual circles away.
Espada fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Fydor Espada seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That was a close round but I would say that Tche Bagual will probably get the nod.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Espada avoids the body shot from Bagual.
Espada fails to land with a series of punches.
Espada throws an overhand right that lands on Bagual's shoulder, as Bagual tries to avoid the shot.
Espada tries for a takedown but Bagual sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Espada throws a series of punches but Bagual moves out of range.
Bagual tries to close the distance and clinch but Espada swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tche Bagual is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bagual can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Espada is looking to escape.

Bagual connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Bagual with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Espada tries to reverse the position but Bagual maintains control.
Bagual wants to control the pace but Espada is squirming around nicely.

Bagual sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Bagual can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Espada is looking to escape.
Espada slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Bagual is looking to stall here but Espada recovers full guard.
Bagual wanted to stand there but Espada had control of the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Espada seems keen to control Bagual's posture.
Bagual wants to stand and escape but instead Espada has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's time! Bagual's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Espada bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

and Espada counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Espada.
Espada must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Espada trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Bagual manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Bagual is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Bagual really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Espada really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bagual. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bagual postures up in Espada's guard and throws a big left but Espada blocks it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Bagual throws a head kick that misses.
Bagual lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Espada circles away quickly and effectively.
A punch combination from Espada misses.
Espada tries for a takedown but Bagual circles away easily

and Bagual counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Espada's guard now.
Espada wants to sweep but no luck.
Bagual is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Espada looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Bagual puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Bagual wants to work for an arm triangle but Espada is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bagual is pressing down on Espada's thigh, looking to free his foot. Espada is holding on for now.
Bagual wants to control but Espada is keeping him busy.
Bagual wants to stand up but Espada is controlling the position.
Bagual is looking to advance position but Espada won't allow it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Bagual stuffs the takedown.
Espada misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Fydor Espada has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Bagual instigates a clinch.
Espada tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bagual just stands there and leans against the cage.
Tche Bagual has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fydor Espada.
Bagual wants to break the clinch but can't.
Espada lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Bagual backwards.
Espada tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bagual smiles and moves away.

and Bagual counters with a shoot takedown. Espada fights it but they end up in guard.
Bagual will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Espada pushes Bagual off and scrambles back to his feet.
Espada misses with an uppercut. Bagual saw that one coming.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tche Bagual.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bagual, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
