Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Grigory Stensky! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Allen Melgar! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Matheus Silva and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Melgar stuffs the takedown. Melgar is looking to clinch. Melgar slaps away a takedown attempt from Stensky, before circling back to the center of the mat. Melgar forces Stensky back against the cage and clinches. Melgar should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. A battle for position here, against the cage. Stensky has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Melgar avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Grigory Stensky. That's going to take a lot out of him. Melgar avoiding damage.
Melgar lands a left hand that snaps the head of Stensky backwards. Stensky has Melgar pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Melgar manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Melgar pulls Stensky into guard.
Stensky drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Stensky jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Melgar looking to control.
Stensky is standing up over Melgar. Melgar looks to escape but Stensky dives into side control.
Melgar is trying to control Stensky's posture but Stensky avoids it. Melgar is looking to reverse the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stensky is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Melgar has escaped the position, nice work there. Stensky is looking to take a break and control but Melgar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Melgar can't do much from the bottom here. Stensky wants to lay and pray for a moment but Melgar keeps working. Melgar can't do much from the bottom here. Melgar tries to improve position but can't.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Stensky dives in and grabs Melgar's left leg, looking for a takedown. Melgar pushes down on Stensky's head and hops out. Stensky is breathing heavily. Melgar gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Melgar working a defensive guard here.
Melgar is looking to stand up but Stensky isn't so interested in that idea. Stensky trying to control the position from guard on top but Melgar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Melgar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Stensky is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Melgar is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Melgar has escaped and now he's on top!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stensky throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Melgar escapes and throws Stensky's legs to the side, diving into side control! Melgar controls the position from side control. Stensky is not content to let Melgar control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Stensky trying to remain calm as Melgar controls from the top position. Stensky struggling a bit here. Stensky tries to control but Melgar manages to take his back. Stensky trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Melgar is looking to control Stensky but Stensky is wriggling around and keeping busy. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Melgar working for the choke. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mark Allen Melgar dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Melgar decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Stensky actively working from the bottom here. Stensky looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Melgar is trying to control the action in half guard but Stensky is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Melgar tries to stand and escape but Stensky is controlling the position. Melgar wants to stand up. He gets to his feet but Stensky has locked on to a leg, he rolls the pair back to the ground and cranks on Melgar's ankle. The pair roll once more but Stensky really cranks it and Melgar is forced to tap! Great counter grappling from Stensky!
