Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 5 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Macapinlac Co! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gregory Silva! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Co displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Silva. Co shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Silva is refusing to be controlled, as Co sits in half guard. Co not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Co prevents Silva from improving his position. Silva works his way to full guard. Good work. Silva is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Co is aware though and is defending well. Co passes into half guard. Co is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Co throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Silva tries to get to full guard but Co has control of the leg. Co stands up out of the half guard. Silva misses with a takedown attempt and Co counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Co. Silva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Silva throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Co throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Co's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Co won't allow Silva to sweep him here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva striking off his back but it's not causing Co any problems. Silva isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Co stacks Silva on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Co! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Silva looks gassed! Silva takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Silva is looking for a sweep. Silva manages to get back to half guard. Silva punching from the bottom.
Co is trying to work for a kimura but Silva is defending well.
Co passes the guard and advances to mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Silva manages to regain half guard. Good work. Co drops an elbow to the side of Silva's head. Silva works his way to full guard. Good work. Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Co in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Co with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Co with a nice head shot there. Silva looking for a sweep. Not yet Silva, not yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Co stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard. Silva is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Co is aware though and is defending well. Co has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Co tries to free his leg and advance position but Silva is retaining full guard. Co passes easily into side control. Nice work. Silva misses with an elbow from the bottom. Co landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Co cracks Silva with an elbow. That is naaassty. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Co tries to advance to mount but can't. Co is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Silva knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Co passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Silva! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Macapinlac Co dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
The fight stays on the outside here - Silva looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Silva misses with a takedown attempt and Co counters with a takedown into side control. Co connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Silva some visible discomfort.
Silva manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Silva tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Silva makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Silva. Silva keeping moving, preventing Co from controlling successfully. Co postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Silva is breathing heavily. Co stopping the sweep attempt from Silva. Co stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Co is sitting in close to Silva's body. Silva has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Co is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Co is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Silva.
