Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ferdynand Kiepski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ciprian Bogatu! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Donatello Bradman and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bogatu shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bogatu showed some decent athleticism there. Kiepski looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Kiepski on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Bogatu lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Bogatu throwing shots but Kiepski is blocking nicely. Kiepski looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Bogatu controlling the action here. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Bogatu lands a nice short elbow. Bogatu is taking a breather. Kiepski says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Kiepski is trying to control but can't.
Bogatu not doing much here.
Bogatu has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Let's hope that Bogatu has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Bogatu lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Bogatu working the head and body with strikes. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Bogatu lands a nice short elbow. Bogatu sitting and controlling from the half guard. Kiepski tries to get to full guard but Bogatu has control of the leg. Bogatu is trying to work for a kimura but Kiepski is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bogatu is taking a breather. Kiepski says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ciprian Bogatu. Kiepski wants to clinch. Bogatu works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bogatu shoots in and bounces Kiepski off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Bogatu is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Bogatu is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Kiepski pulls Bogatu in to control the position. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kiepski is on top in guard.
Bogatu wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Bogatu controls Kiepski momentarily but Kiepski frees himself. Bogatu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Bogatu seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bogatu manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kiepski manages to get himself to full guard.
Bogatu throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kiepski works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Kiepski is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bogatu is aware though and is defending well. Kiepski doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Bogatu slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Bogatu landing some decent shots from guard. Bogatu drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Bogatu seems to have locked his on tight now - Kiepski screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Bogatu, as he picks up the win!
